RN Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to laboring patients in a rural hospital setting. This role requires managing labor patients while also attending to OB triage and outpatient care, often as the sole L&D nurse on shift. The nurse will collaborate with the charge nurse and on-call team for support and may assist with postpartum and nursery care as needed. The position demands strong clinical skills, independent decision-making, and flexibility in a fast-paced, variable-ratio environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to laboring patients, including assessment, monitoring, and interventions during labor and delivery.
• Manage OB triage and outpatient patient care as needed.
• Collaborate with the charge nurse and on-call team to ensure patient safety and support.
• Assist with postpartum and nursery care when patient volumes and staffing require.
• Adhere to AWHONN guidelines for labor and delivery care whenever possible.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and clinical observations.
• Support unit operations and patient care needs in a rural hospital setting.

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in labor and delivery or related OB care.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple patient care responsibilities simultaneously.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

• Experience working in rural hospital or short-term acute care settings.
• Familiarity with AWHONN guidelines and labor and delivery best practices.
• Ability to float to postpartum, nursery, or other units as needed.

• Must be able to work independently as often the sole L&D nurse on shift.
• Charge nurse and on-call team provide backup support but are not present on unit.
• Position requires weekend work, with six weekend shifts every six weeks.
• Floating to other units is not required but may assist with postpartum and nursery care.
• Not eligible for 48-hour shifts.

• Work schedule includes six weekend shifts per six-week schedule.
• No block schedules required.
• Shift assignments follow variable patient-to-nurse ratios depending on census.
