Registered Nurse (Float)

Job Overview We are seeking a registered nurse who will provide safe, high‑quality care throughout the patient treatment and disease process, supporting patients at all stages from diagnosis to end of life. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinate and perform direct patient care, collaborating with other care providers and team members. Review, update, and verify all required patient data prior to and during each visit. Collaborate with physicians to assess and treat symptoms related to disease, treatment, and disease progression, as well as acute illnesses. Perform telephone triage using critical assessment skills to evaluate patient concerns and needs. Start peripheral IVs, manage central venous access devices (including accessing and deaccessing implanted ports). Mix and administer chemotherapy and other drugs per Tennessee Oncology (TO) standards after training and competency validation. Administer and document administration of chemo, biologic, targeted therapy, and/or research study drugs (if applicable). Follow all policies, procedures, and standards related to drug cabinet use, verification, administration, documentation, and billing. Document charges for services performed and medications administered. Ensure timely collection of all ordered laboratory specimens. Monitor PT/INR results and collaborate with the provider to manage anticoagulation / Coumadin therapy. Manage prescription / refill extension requests per TO policy, procedure, and standards. Assist with provider‑performed procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and skin punch biopsies. Coordinate provision of supportive care with appropriate hospital staff, including blood product transfusions. Conduct patient education and document patient readiness and understanding during the informed consent process. Complete forms and paperwork for patient assistance, employment, and insurance (e.g., FMLA, short‑term and long‑term disability). Screen patients routinely for needs and distress, provide counseling and interventions, and make referrals to community or support services. Use an empathetic and caring approach with patients at all times. Navigate the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), documenting patient information and services performed. Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly drug/sampling inventory counts, supply requests, waste documentation, audits, and billing entries. Inform the Clinic / Operations Manager of clinic needs and concerns related to the work environment. Supervise LPNs, CNAs, and MA’s. Stock and manage inventory and supplies. Generate and review daily clinical reports for completion and accuracy. Adhere to practice standards and policies and procedures. Travel to other TO clinics as needed. Participate on committees and focus groups as requested. Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth, completing required training, continuing education, competency validations, and other assignments on time. Collaborate with dedicated clinic SCRI nurses (if applicable) to ensure adherence to research protocol and documentation of SCRI paper chart requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of nursing principles and practices. Knowledge of oncology practices and treatments. Knowledge of current developments in cancer diagnosis and therapy. Knowledge of research practices for phases I, II, and III clinical trials. Ability to administer chemotherapy and other treatment therapies. Ability to empathize with patients and families, and manage grief and challenging interactions. Ability to collaborate with the health care team to develop personalized treatment plans. Ability to cope with death and dying. Oncology resource to colleagues, allied health personnel, and health care consumers. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Current Tennessee or compact state RN license. Minimum one year of RN experience; may be waived with Executive Director of Nursing approval. Current ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy card required within 6 months of hire; if less than one year of oncology experience, within 9 months of hire. Current TO approved BLS provider card. Oncology certification strongly recommended within 2 years of hire. Experience in an outpatient facility preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
