Sr. Software Engineer Middleware - Java (Hybrid Oak Brook, IL)

To accomplish this, the Sr. Software Engineer will work with other developers and architects to design, build, and maintain a highly-scalable, highly-available, and robust platform that can reliably serve live and recorded video streams to millions of customers.In addition, the Sr. Software Engineer role will interface with other parts of the business such as User Experience, Product Ownership, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Customer Service, in order to understand and translate product requirements into technical requirements, verify development matches product owner expectations, as well as maintain a high quality code base.Job Responsibilities:Design, develop, and maintain middleware using Agile methodologies such as Scrum and KanbanAnalyze requirements, collaborate with architects and senior engineers to produce thoughtful software designs of moderate scope and complexityParticipate in peer reviews and pull requests to yield high quality softwarePresent software concepts, designs, or code in a design review forumProvide mentoring and coaching to junior engineers to increase the software development capability of the team. Be a reliable source for technical troubleshooting and support for the teamLead and contribute to technical discussions in community of practice, design review, or other technical meeting forumsWork with offshore teams to design and develop features, and burn down technical debtEnsure adherence to coding standards and other best practices to create reusable codeMaintain platform specific software knowledge of key software application features, frameworks, and components in myQ video platform and middlewareStay current on modern technologies and innovations which can further enhance and improve the commercial success of the MyQ connectivity solutionResponsible for complying with the security requirements set forth by the Information Security team and the established ISO 27001 Security Roles, Responsibilities, and Authorities Document found in the ISMS Document LibraryComply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.Job Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experienceAn advanced degree in directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of job related experience5+ years of job-related experienceExperience with Agile methodologies and Scrum and Kanban is requiredExperience in creating technical documentation is requiredExperience estimating workExperience with Java technology stack, including Java SE, Java EE, JDBC, HibernateExperience with Eclipse, GITExperience with SQL, No-SQL databases, messaging systemsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Thorough understanding of OOP, SOLID, and RESTful servicesAbility to work well with others and provide clear direction to a development teamStrong understanding of dependency injection and cloud developmentGood communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally with front end and quality engineersStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to lead junior and senior engineers on projectsAbility to debug, troubleshoot, and self-diagnose issues in software developmentAbility to interface with scrum team, product owners, and scrum masters for ticket/issue managementAbility to estimate work, support project plan creation, and report out progress to functional management at a project levelUnderstanding of CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) tools, frameworks and deployment processesExperience supporting project plan creation, and reporting progress to functional management at a project levelOther:Ability to travel up to 10% of the time domestically and internationallyThe pay range for this position is $85,500.00 - $162,975.00; base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. In addition to base pay, also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
