Budget Officer Duties

As a Budget Officer some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

1. Directs and manages the budget formulation process by prescribing policies, procedures, and controls while ensuring compliance with the Administration's objectives and conformance to statutory authority.
2. Designs, plans and directs the development of the Service's Budget estimate documents to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Budget Justifications to Congress.
3. Establishes general policies on programming and funding matters.
4. Designs, plans and directs the preparation of budget materials for use before appropriation committees, or any committee when the hearing is primarily on the budget, including drafting opening statements, briefing the Directorate and key witnesses, anticipating committee questions and drafting responsive answers.
5. Manages the development and maintenance of a system of controls that ensures apportionment and allotment limits are not exceeded and comply with the appropriating legislation and policies established by OMB, Department of the Treasury (Treasury) and the Department.
6. Provides direction and leadership for GPRA compliance and reporting to include the development of the Service's 5-year Strategic Plan and Annual Performance Plans.
