Assistant Professor - Journalism Program, Media and Communication Arts

Position Details Department of Media and Communications Arts (MCA) and the Journalism Program at City College of New York (CCNY) is inviting applicants for a tenure‑track assistant professorship in undergraduate journalism. The successful candidate will work with one of the most diverse student populations in the nation, teaching students pursuing a B.A. in communications with a concentration in journalism. The program emphasizes community reporting and seeks a candidate with experience in daily journalism. Responsibilities Teach two to three undergraduate journalism courses, guiding students in analysis and critical thinking as they research and report on their communities. Oversee the program’s award‑winning online publication "Harlem View" and advise two student club publications: "The Paper" and "The Campus Magazine". Remain professionally active in hands‑on reporting to enhance classroom experience and scholarship. Collaborate with colleagues across MCA’s Advertising & Public Relations, film, and game design programs. Develop and propose new courses and platforms for journalistic inquiry and practice. Qualifications M.A. in journalism or communications. Minimum of ten years as a working journalist. Demonstrated ability to teach successfully. Proven record of continued professional accomplishments. Strong fact‑based storytelling skills and willingness to adapt creatively to evolving techniques and technology. Flexibility and collaborative spirit. Compensation Salary range: $76,937 – $94,909, commensurate with education and experience.
