Job Summary

Join the dedicated team at Bassett Medical Center in New York State, USA, as an essential Registered Nurse in their comprehensive Obstetric Inpatient Unit. This unit is equipped with 4 Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) rooms, each featuring private amenities, 8 postpartum rooms, dedicated operating rooms for Caesarean births, and a special care nursery. The facility supports an average of 80-90 deliveries per month, providing a dynamic and rewarding environment for patient care.

The unit comprises a mix of experienced RNs and new graduates, making the role of a traveler critical in supporting patient care and mentoring less experienced staff. This position offers the opportunity to provide holistic care across the continuum of labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum phases, ensuring high-quality outcomes for mothers and newborns.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive direct patient care to laboring, delivering, recovering, and postpartum mothers.
• Monitor maternal and fetal well-being, interpreting fetal monitoring strips and assessing maternal vital signs.
• Assist physicians with vaginal and Caesarean section deliveries, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
• Deliver postpartum care, including pain management, lactation support, and newborn care education to families.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
• Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records for all patients.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-2 years of recent, acute care Obstetric (OB) experience.
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State, USA.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of recent, acute care Obstetric (OB) experience.
• Prior travel nursing experience.
• Experience working in a specialized OB setting (e.g., high-risk L&D, Level III NICU support).

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in fetal monitoring interpretation and intervention.
• Expertise in labor support techniques and pain management strategies.
• Strong skills in postpartum assessment and care for both mother and newborn.
• Ability to assist with and recover patients from Caesarean sections.
• Competency in medication administration and IV therapy.
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and unit demands.
• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.

Shift Details

• Shift Type: Night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Days per week: 3 shifts per week
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: 2026-06-29

• Scheduling Cycle: Shifts are scheduled on an 8-week cycle.
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend required.
• Holiday Coverage: Every other holiday required, consistent with full-time staff.
• Scheduling Flexibility: Efforts are made to accommodate preferred shifts and offer block scheduling based on unit needs, though not guaranteed. Clinicians are not routinely expected to switch between day and night shifts without a consistent pattern, but temporary adjustments may be requested based on staffing needs.

Licensing Requirements

• Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA).
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification.
