The AZ/NM Geotechnical Business Class Lead will represent HDR’s geotechnical engineering to national and regional clients and clearly communicate geotechnical capabilities to aid in the procurement of work, and build relationships within all HDR business groups to develop technical expertise, elevate quality, and support strategic and profitable growth. This position includes the identification and hiring of appropriate geotechnical staff to support HDR’s strategic direction and emerging markets.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe primary role of the AZ/NM Geotechnical Business Class Lead is to provide leadership of HDR’s geotechnical practice in the AZ/NM Area to promote cohesive technical excellence across the program, support the delivery of innovative services for our projects and mitigate risks for both HDR and our clients. This position will partner with HDR’s business groups (Transportation, Water, Resources, Building Engineering Services, Architecture and Federal) to develop an impactful geotechnical practice.In the role of Geotechnical Business Class Lead, we’ll count on you to:Coordinate, monitor, and improve technical competencies of Geotechnical Business Class staff to meet project demands, client needs and market drivers, guided in direction and goals of Geotechnical Business Class strategiesSelect, train, mentor and manage geotechnical personnelPromote the AZ/NM geotechnical practice and establish partnerships to advance innovative concepts and mitigate risks for the benefit of HDR and our clientsContribute to HDR’s geotechnical practice and professional discipline groups, project teams, and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviewsParticipate in geotechnical work strategic planning and implementationConfirm geotechnical work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through proactive project management system.Drive to continually refine the process to increase technical competence, efficiency of design, and quality of productFunction as project manager or geotechnical task lead on projects as needed, and take responsibility for production on projectsParticipate in project pursuits and develop marketing plans and proposals, as well as participate in interviews while representing HDR in front of clients and during coordination of pursuit related workWork proactively and collaboratively with HDR geotechnical national business class director to align strategies and proactively drive the geotechnical practice communityPreferred QualificationsActive, or ability to obtain within 6 months, PE registration in AZ and NMMaster of Science degree or higher in Engineering (Geotechnical/Geologic engineering)/or equivalent level of experience10 or more years of progressive experience in advanced engineering projects leading geotechnical design efforts for public and private clientsDemonstrated ability to complete geotechnical investigations and analyses for foundations, embankments, slopes, excavation support and retaining structures for varied project types, including transportation clientsHands-on expertise with subsurface investigations, field/lab testing, foundation design, slope stability, settlement, and ground improvement.Experience with software such as SHAFT, LPILE, SETTLE3D, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, RocScience Programs, AASHTO MEPDG, GIS, and Civil 3D.Active participation in professional societies (ASCE, AEG, DFI, Geo Institute of ASCE).Excellent interpersonal skills, technical writing ability, and the drive to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.Sufficient knowledge in soil mechanics and/or soil mechanics to fully understand the technical elements (breadth) and bring advanced concept solutions to bearExperience with geotechnical engineering software, and its use, to analyze static, dynamic, and seismic aspects of foundation design, slope stability, settlement evaluation, and earth retention design, including numerical modeling.#LI-JM8QualificationsRequired Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field 10 years of experience Committed to quality, improvement and HDR valuesMaintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience Experienced in development and management of diverse teams Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must What We BelieveHDR is our company.
