Legal Counsel

Duvera's client, one of Houston's top international law firms is searching for a Compliance Counsel – Conflicts & Risk Management. This is a non-billable role.

Seeking an experienced Compliance Counsel (5–8 years) to join the General Counsel’s Office and support firmwide legal and ethical compliance. This role focuses on analyzing and resolving conflicts of interest related to new clients, matters, and lateral hires, while advising attorneys and leadership on risk management and intake processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and evaluate conflicts of interest for new business and lateral hires
• Conduct complex conflicts analyses and provide risk-based recommendations
• Draft conflict waivers, ethical screens, and related documentation
• Support client and matter intake to ensure compliance and efficiency
• Collaborate with attorneys and business teams to resolve conflicts issues
• Maintain accurate conflicts records and ensure data integrity
• Advise on legal ethics and professional responsibility rules

Qualifications:

• J.D. and active U.S. bar membership
• Minimum of 5–8 years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm, professional services firm, or in-house legal department.
• Direct, full-time conflicts experience at a large law firm is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying Rules of Professional Conduct across multiple jurisdictions is preferred.
• Prior experience in an AMLAW 200 or similarly complex law firm environment is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is required.

Remote flexibility available (must be within commuting distance of the office in downtown Houston who can attend onsite CLE's and quarterly lunches).
