Certified Nurse-Midwife

The Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) will develop an independent practice with a collaborative physician in our Rural Health Clinic to provide care throughout many stages including prenatal, pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum, and women's health services. The CNM joins our team of physicians, nurses, lactation consultants and other healthcare professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment. The CNM is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and/or referral of patients in accordance with appropriate Wisconsin statutes and federal regulations.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing a midwifery program through vision and initiative that is inclusive of supportive services for childbearing women.
• Collaborating and referring to our lactation consultants and other supportive services.
• Performing/assisting with routine diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to, injections, immunizations, suturing, and insertion of implantable birth control.
• Eliciting a personal medical history; performing an appropriate physical examination and recording pertinent data in the patient's medical record.
• Ordering laboratory studies and/or imaging tests as needed.
• Providing routine office based obstetric and gynecological procedures.
• Providing counseling on contraception, family planning, and sexual health.
• Providing health maintenance and disease prevention.
• Performing evaluation and treatment procedures necessary to ensure appropriate response to life-threatening emergency situations.
• Assisting in the delivery of services to patients by reviewing and monitoring treatment and therapy plans; and seeking physician intervention when necessary.
• Facilitating referral of patients to other appropriate community healthcare facilities, agencies, and resources.
• Participating in continuing personal education.
• Conforming to appropriate infection control policies when in contact with patients, blood, and body fluids (i.e., practice good Universal Precautions).
• Responsible for documenting patient info in electronic medical record (EPIC).
• Writing prescriptions for medications, according to state regulation and practice protocol.
• Promoting positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education and/or counseling.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

• Current Nurse-Midwife license in the state of Wisconsin.
• Graduate degree in Nurse-Midwifery from an ACME accredited program and Nursing from an accredited school.
• EPIC experience a plus.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to multi-task and solve problems.
• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills required.
