Job Description:\n\nTitle: Biology Faculty\nPosition Type: Faculty 9 Month Full Time\nCollege: Pikes Peak State College\nLocation: Colorado Springs\nSalary Range: $60,000\nAnticipated start date January 2027.\nThe required teaching schedule is January to May with the required pay schedule from January to August ($30,000/8). Beginning August 2027, the required teaching schedule is August to May with the required pay schedule from September to August ($60,000/12) and ongoing. \nRegular faculty shall be subject to a provisional period from the date of first contract at the College until the completion of employment under three consecutive full-year, regular contracts. Whether you work in the classroom or behind the scenes, your contributions help create opportunities that change lives.\n\n At PPSC, our vision is simple: Students Succeed at PPSC.\n \nJob Summary:\nRegular Faculty work under the direction of their respective Associate Dean/Division Dean and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College and the Department Chair's approved course outline. Regular Faculty are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.\n Regular Faculty are required to serve a provisional period from the date of employment until the completion of employment under three consecutive full year regular contracts. \n This position may require working in virtual, weekend, evening, or various campus locations. Successful candidate must be willing to teach concurrent enrollment both on PPSC campuses and in local area high schools.\nDuties & Responsibilities:\nFaculty/Student Interaction\n Demonstrates a commitment to teaching.\n Uses appropriate and various teaching strategies.\n Uses flexible approaches in teaching for learning.\n Acknowledges differences in learning styles and motivation.\n Encourages students to achieve goals.\n Relates coursework to real life experiences.\n Maintains a positive and empathetic attitude towards students. \nClassroom Performance\n Organizes subject matter, course materials, and objectives.\n Communicates effectively.\n Maintains knowledge of and enthusiasm for both the subject matter and teaching.\n Demonstrates a positive attitude toward students. \nMaterials and Preparation/Relevancy \n Maintains current and relevant syllabus, following State guidelines when indicated.\n Reviews and updates course materials.\n Uses evaluation methods related to and appropriate for course content.\n Informs students in writing, of the objectives of the course content.\n Uses supplemental resources in addition to textbook or other course materials.\n Participate in all aspects of department and/or college level assessment of student learning outcomes in general education and career/technical courses and programs as required.\nRecord keeping and Instructional Management\n Keep scheduled office hours, including providing regular student office hours.\n Meets classes as scheduled for prescribed time. \n Submits required reports and documents.\n Attends required Divisional meetings. \nProfessionalism \n Seeks to maintain a high quality of instruction by remaining current on discipline specific and pedagogical issues.\n Collaborates with colleagues in a professional manner.\n Uses communication techniques that foster collegiality when problem solving.\n Works to resolve conflicts in an atmosphere of mutual respect.\n Contributes to the promotion of an excellent educational climate within the college as a whole, as well as within the division and department.\nPromoting Division/College Quality of Instruction \n Assist, as requested, with the development of the term class schedule and the college catalog.\n Assist with curriculum review, revision, development and implementation within the department.\n Assist in the development and maintenance of course outlines and course syllabi.\n Assist in textbook selection and adoption.\n Assist with student advising and student registration.\n Maintain a program advisory committee, as appropriate.\n Participate in professional development activities as requested by the dean.\n Assist with program reviews as required by appropriate agencies, e.g., NCA.\nProfessional Contributions \n Serve on college discipline, department, and community committees and task forces on behalf of the college.\n Assist with Divisional activities as requested by the dean.\n Assist with student recruitment as appropriate.\n Assist with the development and implementation of alternative modes of instructional delivery, e.g., Internet or ITV, as appropriate.\n Perform other duties as assigned by the dean, the Vice President for Instructional Services and/or the College President. \nGeneral Duties\n Demonstrate an understanding of evidence-based, inclusive teaching strategies and curriculum development for the classroom environment.\n Demonstrates ability to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate teaching activities and curriculum.\n Demonstrates ability to employ qualitative and quantitative analytical skills in the classroom.\n Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.\n Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate written student records as required by policy and procedure.\n Demonstrates ability to inform students of all course requirements.\n Demonstrates ability to evaluate students and offer feedback on a continuing basis.\n Demonstrates ability to relate to student concerns and maintain open communication.\n Demonstrates ability to work effectively with diverse populations.\nCompetencies/KSAs:\nAs the needs of our students, employers, and communities continue to evolve, so do we. Whether you work in the classroom or behind the scenes, your contributions help create opportunities that change lives.\nMinimum Qualifications:\n• Master's degree in biology (or related degree listed below) OR Master’s degree in any field plus 18 graduate credits among the related degree areas, OR an advanced degree to practice human or animal medicine.- Related Degrees: Biology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Anatomy, Physiology, Cellular Biology, Cancer Biology, Neurobiology, Neuroscience, Virology, Bacteriology, Mycology, Genetics, Immunology, Zoology, Botany, Ecology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Biotechnology, Developmental Biology, Biomedical Engineering. \n • Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology or closely related course.\n• In-person teaching experience, including a lab component. \n • A demonstrated student-centered focus and experience with program and curriculum development \n • Demonstrated ability to work with underrepresented populations in successful efforts to close the achievement gap. \n • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships \n • Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement, ongoing professional development, and a resilience for a dynamic changing work environment\nPreferred Qualifications:\n• Doctoral degree in a biology-related field (especially with A&P emphasis) or an advanced degree to practice medicine from a regionally accredited college/university \n • In-person teaching experience that includes human or organ dissections and histology. \n • Research or non-teaching work experience in the field.\n• Three or more years of post-secondary teaching experience in anatomy and physiology, including at a community college\n• Demonstrated understanding of the mission and purpose of a community college, including equity minded practice and inclusive excellence \n • Experience working at a Minority Serving Institution and/or in programs aimed at encouraging access, retention, and completion of diverse student populations. \n • Demonstrated dedication to interactive, learner-centered teaching methods \n • Proven track record in developing and implementing various pedagogical approaches, including high-impact practices. \n • Experience with assessment of academic programs \n • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of diversity and the ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, cultures, and learning styles, as well as students with disabilities or varied levels of academic preparation \n • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.\nSelection Process:\nFor full consideration, all application materials must be received by 4:00 p.m. on September 14, 2026.\nMust be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment. Supplemental life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance policies are available for those interested in additional coverage.
