Salary Range: $232,095 – $315,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions.

Summary

The Interim Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer for UCCS, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for all academic programs and initiatives. As the senior member of the Chancellor's executive team, the Interim Provost ensures academic excellence and fosters a culture of innovation that encourages growth and change. The role requires a dynamic leader to advance the university's mission by guiding academic policy, enhancing faculty development, and overseeing curriculum and research initiatives. Collaboration with other university leaders, external partners, and representation at the highest levels are also essential to support UCCS as a premier comprehensive regional research university. The Interim Provost provides executive leadership for institutional accreditation activities, ensuring compliance with Higher Learning Commission standards and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions

• Serve as UCCS's chief academic officer and advance teaching, learning, research, creative work, and service.
• Provide vision and leadership for development, implementation, evaluation, review, prioritization, and continuous improvement of academic programs, including clinics and professional practice.
• Lead academic program reduction and discontinuance processes in alignment with governance, policy, and accreditation requirements.
• Advance student success by strengthening collaboration between faculty and staff across curricular and co‑curricular programs.
• Remove barriers to academic innovation and guide the portfolio in response to changing needs.

• Serve as the Chancellor's collaborative partner and principal academic advisor.
• Lead long‑range academic planning and align priorities with strategic goals.
• Allocate and steward resources using data‑informed, ethical, sustainable practices.
• Navigate and influence complex budgetary and programmatic decisions, establishing clear priorities.
• Oversee and strategically align colleges and key academic units.
• Provide oversight of the accreditation process and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement.

• Recruit, appoint, develop, evaluate, retain, and promote faculty and academic leaders.
• Provide executive oversight for faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion, tenure, evaluation, compensation, and professional development.
• Lead the strategic alignment of faculty affairs structures, resources, policies, and services.
• Foster an academic culture rooted in integrity, accountability, inclusion, and respect.

• Provide strategic leadership for growth, quality, and impact of research and creative work.
• Ensure efficient research enterprise support systems.
• Build relationships with external partners and represent UCCS at regional and federal levels.
• Position UCCS to respond to changes in higher education and public policy.

• Lead development, administration, and review of academic policies through transparent processes.
• Collaborate with faculty assemblies and executive committees to inform decisions.
• Work collaboratively with campus leaders to integrate priorities and resolve challenges.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree from an accredited institution and a distinguished record of teaching, research, or creative work, and service sufficient to warrant appointment and tenure at the rank of full professor.
• Proven track record of senior university academic leadership at the dean level or higher, or as the head of a central academic unit, with substantial responsibility for undergraduate and graduate education, research, or creative work, and faculty affairs.
• Demonstrated experience directing integrated academic and financial planning, resource allocation, program review, institutional accreditation, and complex organizational change in public higher education.
• Demonstrated record of leading faculty and academic personnel processes and working effectively within shared governance to develop policy, make consequential decisions, and build support across constituencies.
• Experience in a public comprehensive research university, multi‑campus system, or an institution navigating significant academic portfolio change is highly desirable.

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs has implemented a misconduct history check program for final candidates for specific appointments.
