We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full Time Medical Receptionist at Gastroenterology of Ocean County in Toms River, NJ with some days in our Brick and Forked River locations.

About the Role:

The Medical Receptionist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of a healthcare facility's front desk and patient intake processes. This position is responsible for managing patient appointments, handling inquiries, and maintaining accurate patient records with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. The role requires effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate seamless patient flow and support quality care delivery. The Medical Receptionist 3 also assists with billing processes, insurance verification, and coordinating referrals, contributing to the overall financial and operational health of the practice. Ultimately, this position serves as the first point of contact for patients, embodying the organization's commitment to compassionate and efficient healthcare service.

Responsibilities:

• Greet and check in patients promptly and courteously, verifying personal and insurance information.
• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Answer incoming calls, respond to patient inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical staff.
• Maintain and update patient records accurately, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
• Assist with insurance verification, billing inquiries, and processing patient payments.
• Coordinate referrals and authorizations with insurance companies and healthcare providers.
• Manage waiting room flow to minimize patient wait times and optimize appointment schedules.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to support daily operational needs and special projects.

The Medical Receptionist utilizes strong organizational skills daily to manage multiple patient appointments and administrative tasks efficiently. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives, ensuring clear and compassionate exchanges. Proficiency with EHR systems and office software enables accurate data entry, scheduling, and record maintenance, which are critical for compliance and operational success. Problem-solving skills help address scheduling conflicts, billing questions, and patient concerns promptly and professionally. Additionally, knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes supports accurate information handling and enhances the overall patient experience.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare office procedures.
• Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
• Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
• Familiarity with insurance verification and billing processes.
• Training in HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Familiarity with medical billing and coding procedures.
