Floor Gymnastics Specialist Camp Carmel Creek is a program of The San Diego Jewish Academy that offers summer adventures combining classic day-camp, specialty camp focus, and a sleepaway camp experience. Leadership : Design, plan, enact, and own your program area to create the best experience for campers. Communication : Maintain clear, effective communication with campers, supervisors, and coworkers. Organization : Follow schedules, manage lessons and supplies, and be prepared for all activities. Problem Solving : Adaptable, resilient, collaborative, and open‑minded problem‑solving in everyday camp situations. Teamwork : Collaborate across staff to reach shared goals across camp events and performances. Responsibilities Plan and lead floor gymnastics sessions for children in kindergarten through 6th grade, emphasizing flexibility, strength, coordination, and basic tumbling skills. Teach fundamental techniques such as rolls, cartwheels, handstands, bridges, and jumps in a safe and developmentally appropriate manner. Create a positive and encouraging environment where campers feel confident to try new skills and progress at their own pace. Emphasize proper warm‑up, stretching, and injury‑prevention techniques to ensure camper safety. Adapt activities and progressions to accommodate different ability levels, ensuring all campers are challenged and supported. Work collaboratively with other camp staff to integrate gymnastics into camp‑wide events, performances, and theme days. Maintain and organize gymnastics equipment, ensuring mats and other apparatus are clean, safe, and properly set up. Participate in staff training before camp begins to align on spotting techniques, safety protocols, and instructional methods. Assist with set‑up and cleanup of the gymnastics space before, during, and after the camp season. Ensure the safety and well‑being of campers by maintaining close supervision, using proper spotting techniques, and fostering a respectful, team‑oriented atmosphere. Qualifications Experience teaching gymnastics to children, preferably in a camp, school, or gymnastics facility setting. Strong knowledge of floor gymnastics fundamentals, including proper techniques, progressions, and spotting methods. Ability to instruct and adjust techniques for campers at various skill levels. Excellent communication and leadership skills to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. Strong attention to safety and risk management. Ability to work collaboratively with camp staff and contribute to a team‑oriented environment. CPR and First Aid certification (preferred but not required). Must be available for pre‑camp staff training and the full camp season. Term of Employment Date June 15 – August 7, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Full‑time and part‑time opportunities available. Four training dates precede the start of camp, totaling 30 hours of paid online and in‑person training. Salary Range $22–$30 per hour, based on level of schooling and experience. Employment Requirements SDJA does not provide immigration sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and be willing to undergo a Live Scan background check (for age 18+) and TB screening as part of the hiring process.
