Camp Carmel Creek - Visual Art Specialist

Visual Art Specialist Camp Carmel Creek is a summer program within The San Diego Jewish Academy that offers a unique, blend‑of‑camp experience. We are looking for a Visual Art Specialist to design, lead, and implement engaging art workshops in a summer camp environment, providing creative programs and mentoring young artists while developing transferable skills for future careers. Responsibilities Plan and lead engaging art workshops covering techniques such as clay molding, sculpture, painting, watercolor, and mixed media. Introduce campers to famous artists and art history to inspire creativity. Guide campers in creating collaborative art installations that bring the camp community together. Encourage self‑expression and creativity in a supportive and inclusive environment. Incorporate camp spirit, energy, and enthusiasm into every session. Participate in staff training before camp begins. Assist with camp setup and cleanup at the start and end of the season. Ensure the safety and well‑being of campers in the art space. Qualifications Experience teaching visual arts to children in a camp, school, or studio setting. Strong knowledge of various artistic techniques and materials, with the ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and skill levels. Passion for fostering creativity and self‑expression in young artists. Ability to create a structured yet flexible curriculum that balances skill‑building and fun. Strong classroom management skills to maintain an organized and safe art space. Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with camp staff. Background in fine arts, art education, or a related field (preferred). CPR and First Aid certification (preferred but not required). Must be available for pre‑camp staff training and the full camp season. Terms of Employment June 15th – August 7th, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (Full‑time and part‑time opportunities available). Four staff training dates prior to June 15th (30 hrs of online and in‑person paid training). Salary: $22–$30 per hour, based on education and experience. Employment Requirements SDJA is unable to provide immigration sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and be willing to undergo both a Live Scan background check (for age 18+) and TB screening as part of the hiring process.
