About the Role:
UNDERWAY FIBERAXIS LLC is looking for a skilled Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our growing team in Arcanum, OH. This is your opportunity to play a hands-on role in building the underground infrastructure that keeps communities connected. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL BE HEADING TO FLORDIA FOR A HUGE PROJECT DOWN THE LINE. BE WILLING TO RELOCATE.
Responsibilities:
Operate HDD equipment to bore underground pathways for fiber optic, utility, and conduit installations
Read and interpret bore plans, site maps, and utility locates to ensure accurate and safe drilling
Monitor drilling fluid (mud) systems, adjusting pressure and flow to maintain borehole integrity
Perform pre-operation inspections, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting on HDD machinery
Coordinate with locating crews and ground personnel to avoid underground utility conflicts
Maintain accurate daily logs of bore footage, equipment usage, and site conditions
Follow all OSHA safety standards, company protocols, and site-specific safety requirements
Requirements:
Proven experience operating HDD equipment (Ditch Witch, Vermeer, or similar)
Knowledge of underground utility installation, boring techniques, and mud mixing
Ability to read and follow bore plans, as-builts, and utility maps
Valid driver's license; CDL preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic equipment maintenance
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments
Reliable, safety-conscious, and a strong team player
