Position Overview

The Martinsville Mustangs are seeking an energetic, entrepreneurial, and community-minded General Manager to lead the day-to-day business operations of the organization while helping build the future of baseball and entertainment at Hooker Field at Lou Whitaker Park .

The General Manager will serve as a key leader for the Mustangs, overseeing business operations, sponsorship sales, marketing, ticketing, promotions, community relations, game-day operations, and staff management.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys wearing many hats, developing relationships, creating new revenue opportunities, and being directly involved in the community.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Team Operations

• Oversee the daily business operations of the Martinsville Mustangs.
• Develop and execute annual operating plans and organizational goals.
• Manage seasonal and year-round staff.
• Coordinate game-day operations and ensure a first-class experience for players, fans, sponsors, and partners at Hooker Field at Lou Whitaker Park .
• Work closely with the Coastal Plain League and league partners.

Sponsorship & Revenue Development

• Develop, sell, and maintain corporate sponsorships.
• Build long-term relationships with local and regional businesses.
• Create new sponsorship opportunities and revenue streams.
• Manage sponsor fulfillment and ensure partners receive meaningful value.
• Identify opportunities to increase attendance, ticket revenue, concessions, merchandise, and other team revenues.

Marketing & Community Relations

• Lead the Mustangs' marketing and promotional efforts.
• Develop social media, digital, print, and grassroots marketing initiatives.
• Build strong relationships with local businesses, schools, civic organizations, nonprofits, and community leaders.
• Represent the Mustangs at community events and throughout the Martinsville-Henry County area.
• Develop creative promotions that increase attendance and fan engagement.

Ticketing & Fan Experience

• Oversee ticket sales and ticketing technology.
• Develop season-ticket, group-ticket, hospitality, and promotional programs.
• Monitor attendance and identify opportunities to grow the Mustangs' fan base.
• Continually improve the overall fan experience at Hooker Field at Lou Whitaker Park .

Baseball & Player Relations

• Work closely with the team's coaching staff and league personnel.
• Assist with player housing, transportation, community appearances, and other player-related needs.
• Help create a positive environment for collegiate athletes representing the Mustangs and their universities.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be:

• A strong communicator and relationship builder.
• Comfortable selling sponsorships and developing new business.
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
• Creative, energetic, and willing to work hands-on.
• Comfortable working nights, weekends, and holidays during the baseball season.
• Passionate about baseball, sports, entertainment, and community development.
• Able to work independently while also leading a team.
• Someone who understands that summer-collegiate baseball requires a "do whatever it takes" mentality.

Previous experience in professional sports, collegiate athletics, sales, marketing, event management, or business operations is preferred but not required.
