Research Scientist – CAR-T / Immunology (Cell Therapy)
Santa Monica, CA (Onsite – 5 days/week)
Contract Role (1 Year)
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist with expertise in Immunology and CAR-T cell therapy to support cutting-edge solid tumor and cell therapy research programs. This role is part of a fast-paced translational research environment supporting Pre-IND/IND-stage cell therapy development.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in T cell biology, cell-based assays, and immunological techniques, with the ability to independently design experiments, analyze data, and contribute to cross-functional scientific programs.
Key Responsibilities
Culture, maintain, and perform QC of solid tumor cell lines
Perform primary T cell isolation, activation, expansion, and engineering
Engineer and characterize CAR-T cell function in vitro
Conduct immunology and molecular assays including:
Flow cytometry (multi-color; FACSDiva, FlowJo)
qPCR / ddPCR
ELISA / Luminex / MSD assays
Cytotoxicity and proliferation assays (e.g., xCELLigence, eSight)
Design and execute hypothesis-driven and fit-for-purpose experiments
Analyze, interpret, and present experimental results using GraphPad Prism, Excel, FlowJo
Maintain accurate and detailed lab records (Benchling experience preferred)
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across research and development
Support time-sensitive Pre-IND/IND research activities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cell Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology, or related field
2+ years (MS) or 4+ years (BS) of relevant industry/academic experience
Hands-on experience with:
T cell culture and functional assays
Flow cytometry (multi-parameter analysis)
Molecular biology techniques (qPCR, ddPCR)
Strong experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation skills
Excellent attention to detail and scientific documentation skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Prior CAR-T cell therapy experience (highly preferred)
Experience in solid tumor immunology
Exposure to ex vivo CAR-T manufacturing workflows
Experience with Benchling ELN
Familiarity with advanced immunoassays and cell-based potency assays
Ability to work in a fast-paced biotech environment with shifting priorities
