Associate Director

Starting Date: Immediately Associate Director Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts Position Type: Full-time, 12 months Job Description Farr Academy, a small therapeutic day school in Cambridge, has been educating bright middle and high school students challenged by academic and social/emotional issues for well over 50 years. Students may present with ADHD, specific learning disabilities, difficulties with executive functioning, deficits in reading or math skills, or advanced academic challenges. They may also have a range of mental health concerns that impact their ability to function successfully in the learning environment. A rigorous academic program is taught by teachers who care and understand how to reach students who have not experienced school success, through sound teaching strategies and the ability to create a safe learning space. Students often struggle to manage their feelings and may express themselves through negative actions, outbursts, withdrawal, or social provocation. Staff focus on building relationships that foster trust and effective teaching of skills and strategies encouraging students to believe in themselves, learn, and successfully negotiate challenges. Working as a team, staff use the philosophy and systems developed at Farr Academy to foster academic, personal, and interpersonal growth in each student. The Associate Director works with the Director to develop and implement program goals and objectives, assists with leadership, direction, guidance, and training for staff, and oversees their performance toward those goals. The Associate Director ensures that practices align with the school’s philosophy and culture, provides oversight and guidance to staff and students, manages day‑to‑day operations, supports the Homeroom Teacher/Counselor and Integrated Counseling/Academic Model, and trains staff in the Non‑Punitive/Non‑Judgmental Problem Solving Process. The Associate Director serves in the Director’s stead when designated, participates in staff meetings presenting training topics, provides case management oversight and documentation, ensures compliance with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations, and engages in the life of the school community. Minimum qualifications: Master’s Degree and licensure in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related discipline, and at least 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
