Director, Field Medical Affairs – Hematologic Malignancies (AML)

Join a Team Advancing Innovation in Hematologic Malignancies IQVIA is seeking an experienced field medical leader to direct a field-based Medical Affairs team supporting a late-stage clinical development program in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

This is a player-coach role: the Director carries full MSL territory responsibilities — with a reduced geography to accommodate leadership duties — while coaching and mentoring the MSL team on skills development and performance.

The MSL Director sets and executes field medical strategy, builds and leads a high-performing MSL team, generates actionable scientific insights, and serves as the bridge between external scientific stakeholders and internal Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and cross-functional partners — supporting both clinical development and launch readiness. The successful candidate pairs deep hematology/oncology expertise with proven leadership, translating field insights into medical strategy and identifying emerging opportunities and risks.

Minimum Requirements

· Advanced scientific or clinical degree required (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, DNP, or equivalent).

· Minimum of 8 years of experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or Medical Affairs organizations.

· Minimum experience of 2 years in leading, coaching, or managing field medical teams

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in hematology and/or oncology with demonstrated therapeutic expertise.

· Strong understanding of AML, MDS, hematologic malignancies, measurable residual disease (MRD), transplantation, cancer immunotherapy, cellular therapies, and evolving standards of care.

· Familiarity with the planning and execution of clinical trials in hematology and oncology and the processes underlying independent investigator-initiated clinical and/or translational research studies, including registries and observational studies.

· Knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations and OIG guidelines.

· Proven ability to network and partner with important external customers, including medical thought leaders, academic institutions, NCI Cooperative groups (e.g., ECOG-ACRIN, SWOG, etc.), various clinical trial consortia, large group community practices, medical directors of clinical groups, CMS and insurance carriers, as well as hematology/oncology pharmacy directors.

· Demonstrated success developing and executing Medical Affairs strategies and field medical initiatives.

· Proven ability to translate scientific insights into strategic recommendations and business decisions.

· Exceptional communication, presentation, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills. · Experience working cross-functionally within highly matrixed organizations.

· Proficiency in CRM systems, insight platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and digital engagement technologies.

· Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively. · Willingness and ability to travel up to 70%.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience supporting AML, MDS, bone marrow transplant, cellular therapy, cancer immunotherapy, or related hematologic malignancies.

· Hematology and/or Oncology launch or pre-commercial Medical Affairs experience.

· Experience supporting late-stage clinical development programs.

· Existing relationships with academic institutions, cooperative groups, investigators, and key hematology/oncology centers.

· Experience supporting small or emerging biotechnology companies.

· Previous responsibility for mentoring or managing MSL teams nationally or regionally. Position Responsibilities Medical Affairs Strategy & Leadership

· Provide strategic leadership for the field medical organization, ensuring alignment between Medical Affairs objectives, clinical development priorities, and external stakeholder engagement strategies.

· Conduct field visits to develop and motivate MSLs for attainment with objectives; to assess and monitor field activity and work schedules; to monitor and manage field reporting

· Partner with client and Medical Affairs leadership to develop and execute field medical plans supporting clinical development, evidence generation, and future commercialization efforts.

· Translate organizational priorities into actionable field initiatives, engagement strategies, and measurable objectives.

· Contribute to annual medical planning, tactical execution, and strategic decision-making.

· Identify opportunities, risks, and emerging trends that may influence Medical Affairs strategy, scientific engagement priorities, or launch planning activities. Field Medical Leadership & Team Development

· Recruit, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Medical Science Liaisons.

· Establish clear performance expectations and professional development plans aligned with organizational goals.

· Monitor field activity, stakeholder engagement quality, scientific exchange metrics, and insight generation effectiveness.

· Ensure consistent execution of field medical plans and best practices across the team.

· Partner with Talent Acquisition, Training, Compliance, and Operations to support workforce planning, onboarding, development, and retention initiatives.

· Foster a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Scientific Leadership & External Engagement

· Identify, establish and maintain collaborative relationships with key investigators/ key opinion leaders and institutions strategic to the effective use of company products at a strategic level.

· Serve as a senior scientific representative and trusted partner to key opinion leaders, investigators, academic institutions, cooperative groups, and community hematology/oncology stakeholders.

· Guide and support high-value scientific interactions conducted by the field medical team.

· Ensure scientific consistency, credibility, and excellence across all field medical activities.

· Lead discussions regarding disease state education, mechanisms of action, biomarkers, MRD, relapse risk, clinical trial data, and emerging therapeutic approaches.

· Strategically organize and help coordinate the set-up and successful execution of Medical Affairs advisory boards, as well as Regional Clinical Exchange Panel Forums and other similar scientific exchange and insight-seeking meetings, as necessary, and following discussion with company leadership.

· Represent Medical Affairs at congresses, advisory boards, investigator meetings, and scientific exchange programs.

· Strategically support scientific exchange with healthcare professionals (HCPs), KOLs, formulary committees, and other key stakeholders through planning and deployment tactics with the MSL field team.

· Facilitate the identification of medical community training and educational needs.

· Serve as a key senior contact for investigators for the initiation of investigator-initiated studies.

· Provide investigators with technical support for study development.

· Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues from industry leaders to appropriate client company departments and functions to help shape company research, development, marketing plans and strategies.

· Maintain clinical expertise through aggressive self-education, including attendance at relevant conferences, scientific workshops and review of key journals.

· Increase client company visibility with current and future thought leaders.

· Enhance professional interaction between client company and industry leaders. Strategic Insights & Medical Intelligence

· Establish and oversee processes for collection, analysis, and communication of actionable field insights.

· Identify emerging trends related to treatment patterns, unmet needs, evidence gaps, stakeholder perceptions, biomarker utilization, and barriers to patient identification and treatment adoption.

· Synthesize field insights into strategic recommendations that inform Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Scientific Communications, and launch readiness activities.

· Serve as the internal voice of external stakeholders, ensuring field-derived perspectives are represented in strategic planning discussions.

· Monitor competitive intelligence, evolving treatment landscapes, guideline updates, congress activity, and investigator interests within AML and related hematologic malignancies. Clinical Development & Research Support

· Support identification and cultivation of relationships with current and prospective clinical trial investigators, research centers, and cooperative groups.

· Partner with Clinical Development teams to support site engagement, trial awareness, and investigator interactions as appropriate.

· Identify clinical research opportunities that are consistent with company objectives.

· Maintain expertise in emerging clinical literature, scientific advancements, trial designs, endpoints, biomarkers, and evolving standards of care.

· Help identify evidence-generation opportunities and external research collaborations that support organizational objectives. Launch Readiness & Organizational Development

· Support development and execution of pre-commercial Medical Affairs strategies and launch readiness plans.

· Contribute to stakeholder mapping, territory planning, congress strategy, and scientific engagement models.

· Work cross-functionally to ensure field medical activities support broader organizational goals and future commercialization efforts.

· Assist in development of field medical performance metrics, dashboards, and measures of success.

· Provide strategic recommendations regarding field team structure, deployment, stakeholder prioritization, and resource allocation. Operational Excellence & Compliance

· Ensure timely and accurate documentation of scientific interactions, activities, and insights within approved systems and platforms.

· Monitor field effectiveness, operational performance, and execution against key performance indicators.

· Collaborate effectively with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, Market Access, Compliance, Training, and Operations teams.

· Maintain the highest standards of scientific integrity, ethics, and regulatory compliance.

The potential base pay range for this role is $240,000-275,000 annually. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
