The Health Science Instructor is responsible for delivering high‑quality, standards‑aligned instruction in the Health Sciences pathway. This role prepares students for post‑secondary nursing and healthcare programs by building foundational knowledge in anatomy and physiology, patient care, medical terminology, and professional healthcare practices. The instructor creates engaging, hands‑on learning experiences, integrates industry expectations, and supports students in earning credentials, dual credit, and work‑based learning experiences aligned to healthcare careers.WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The following outlines your core duties and responsibilities and provides a sample overview of what your day‑to‑day may look like. Core Duties and Responsibilities Design and deliver rigorous, engaging instruction aligned to Indiana Academic Standards, CTE Health Science standards, and district curriculum expectations. Prepare students for careers and postsecondary pathways in nursing and allied health fields, including CNA, pre‑nursing, and health sciences programs. Integrate hands‑on, skills‑based instruction (e.g., vital signs, infection control, patient care simulations) using lab‑based and real‑world applications. Collaborate with school leaders, counselors, and district CTE staff to support student enrollment, pathway completion, and credential attainment. Develop and maintain partnerships with healthcare employers, post‑secondary institutions, and community organizations to support guest speakers, site visits, clinical observations, and work‑based learning opportunities. Support students’ professional skills development, including communication, teamwork, ethics, and cultural competence in healthcare settings. Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction based on data. Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grades, certifications, and work‑based learning participation. Participate in professional development, pathway advisory boards, and continuous improvement efforts. Uphold IPS policies, safety procedures, and equity‑centered instructional practices. “Day In the Life” Overview On a regular day, as the Health Science Instructor, you might: Lead a hands‑on lab where students practice patient care skills or simulate clinical scenarios. Facilitate lessons connecting anatomy and physiology concepts to real nursing responsibilities. Host a guest speaker from a local hospital or nursing program. Meet with students to discuss career goals, post‑secondary options, or certification pathways. Collaborate with colleagues to align instruction with pathway goals and student support strategies. Review student performance data and refine lessons to meet diverse learner needs. WHAT YOU’ll BRING: SKILLS AND MINDSETS As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following: Demonstrate strong content knowledge in nursing, healthcare, or allied health fields. Create inclusive, engaging learning environments that reflect high expectations for all students. Translate industry experience into meaningful, age‑appropriate instructional practices. Build strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners. Integrate career awareness, employability skills, and post‑secondary planning into instruction. Use data to inform instruction and support continuous improvement. Exhibit flexibility, collaboration, and a student‑centered mindset. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Applicants must possess the following credentials and be willing to become dual credit credentialed. Must be eligible through the Indiana Department of Education for a CTE Health Occupations (5–12) or Workplace Specialist: Any Health or Dental Careers (9–12) licensure. Must have occupational experience in the medical field: 5,000 hours (about 2.5 years of experience) in the last five years; or 4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten years with an occupational competency test; or 4,000 hours with occupational licensure or proficiency; or 4,000 hours with an accredited 2‑year or higher degree in the specific certification area; or 4,000 hours with an apprenticeship or internship program.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervisory responsibilities for adults. The Health Science Education I Teacher is also expected to carry out supervisory responsibilities related to monitoring student behavior and activities both in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day and on field trips.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one, small group, and large group situations.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
