The William & Anita Newman Library at Baruch College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in collection management, beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will lead and advance the Library’s strategic stewardship of print and digital collections, aligning them with the teaching, research, and student success mission of Baruch College.
The Newman Library serves a student population of almost 21,000 across the Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, the George and Mildred Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, and the Zicklin School of Business. It also serves as the library resource for CUNY’s online School of Professional Studies. The Library is located on floors 2-5 of the 330,000 square-foot Information and Technology Building, which also houses the student computing lab, Subotnick Financial Services Center, and student business services.
Baruch College is situated in Manhattan’s historic Gramercy/Flatiron district and is one of eleven senior colleges in the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Responsibilities
As a tenure-track faculty member, the Collection Management Librarian will:
- Provide leadership for the development, management, assessment, and strategic direction of the Newman Library collections in all formats.
- Oversee selection, acquisition, licensing, and deselection workflows, ensuring that collections remain current, relevant, and aligned with Baruch’s curriculum and research priorities.
- Manage collection development budgets responsibly and in accordance with CUNY and New York state procurement policies.
- Collaborate with subject librarians and academic departments to evaluate disciplinary needs and support evolving scholarly and pedagogical priorities.
- Develop and apply data-informed methodologies for evaluating usage, relevance, and long-term stewardship of collections.
- Engage with vendors, consortia, and the CUNY Office of Library Services committees on issues of licensing, resource sharing, and collaborative collection initiatives.
- Provide instruction, reference, and subject liaison support.
- Conduct research and publication in librarianship, information science, or other related academic fields, suitable for publication in peer-reviewed venues.
- Serve on Library, College, and University committees, and contribute to governance, service, and special projects.
Compensation and Benefits:
$90,838-$98,995 for a twelve month appointment
*Salary scheduled for a 3.5% contractual increase on September 1, 2026

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program (or ALA-approved foreign equivalent).
- Second graduate degree (Masters minimum).
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in academic library collection management.
- Experience with budgeting, assessment, and development of collection policies.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Demonstrated record in or potential for research and publication.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse campus community.
- Appointment at the associate professor level requires minimum of seven years of experience in academic library collection management and a track record of research productivity suitable for that rank.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising staff or coordinating technical services or collection development workflows.
- Expertise in data-informed assessment, analytics tools, and electronic resource management systems.
- Knowledge of open access models, scholarly communication, and emerging trends in academic library collections.
