Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Staff Therapist is primarily responsible for providing individual, family, couples and group therapy to clients who meet criteria for services under the Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC). Additionally, the Staff Therapist engages in community events, hosts workshops providing psychoeducation, and creates meaningful spaces for connection for community members seeking support. Nine Core Services are offered either directly or through formal partnerships: Crisis Services, Screening, Assessment, and Diagnosis, Person-Centered and Family-Centered Treatment Planning, Outpatient Mental Health and Substance Use Services, Primary Care Screening and Monitoring, Targeted Case Management Services, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services, Peer Supports and Family/Caregiver Supports, Community Care for Uniformed Service Members and Veterans. The Staff Therapist will work closely with all partners including internal La Familia teams, key stakeholders, community organizations, county social workers, parents and team members, consulting and collaborating on client's progress and treatment plans. This role will uphold and champion the agency's mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture. The successful candidate will also:
- Provide meaningful therapy – Offer individual, family, couples and group therapy for clients approved by Alameda County Behavioral Health Department (ACBHD) ACCESS, fostering healing and resilience.
- Engage with the community – Lead psychoeducational workshops, participate in outreach events, and create safe spaces for those seeking support and connection.
- Deliver well-rounded mental health services, including:
- Crisis intervention and immediate support
- Screening, assessment, and diagnosis
- Person-centered and family-centered treatment planning
- Outpatient mental health and substance use counseling
- Psychiatric rehabilitation services
- Peer and caregiver support programs
- Services provided directly or through strategic partnerships
- Collaborate for client success – Work closely with La Familia teams, key stakeholders, community organizations, county social workers, parents, and caregivers to ensure coordinated, effective care.
- Support holistic wellness – Partner with primary care providers as needed to ensure a well-rounded approach to mental health and overall well-being.
- Champion cultural responsiveness – Deliver high-quality, inclusive services that reflect the agency's mission, vision, and values, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment.
We are looking for a candidate to work the following shift:
Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. three-four days a week and 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. shift required one- two weekdays per week.
This role will uphold and champion the agency's mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture.
This position is covered under the SEIU 1021 Collective Bargaining Agreement. In addition to the established base pay, members will receive negotiated annual increases as follows:
- January 2027: 3% base pay increase
Future increases will be subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Conducts psychological evaluations of assigned clients; determines appropriate treatment planning;
- Conducts clinical interviews with clients and other interested persons to develop information pertinent to diagnosis and treatment.
- Interviews clients and families to gather necessary reporting data; prepares mental health assessment for initial diagnosis; and participates in developing psychological treatment programs and case planning for clients in the CCBHC.
- Provides individual and group psychotherapy in alignment with monthly/annual goals.
- Works to engage families into treatment; is available to provide services in the clinic, client homes, and community settings including in evenings, as indicated by client needs.
- Meets with clients (and families) for regular therapeutic interviews; guides the client (and family) in understanding his/her illness and contributing personal, social, and economic factors; assists client (and family) in developing measurable and achievable goals;
- Advises client/family on community resources to support needs arising; makes referrals and other arrangements as necessary.
- Connects participants and provides "warm hand-offs" to other community-based providers to the greatest extent possible, including following up on both internal and external referrals.
- Facilitates holistic and behavioral workshops in the community for the community/clients to engage the community around rising themes and needs.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Complies fully with agency policies and procedures and maintains HIPPA guidelines.
- Submits records of service information and tracking consistent with program policies using electronic health records systems and agency systems.
- Follows appropriate charting and documentation requirements and agency regulations in a timely manner and follows all database policies and procedures.
- Provides input and feedback on potential related projects/programs, as appropriate.
- Supports agency-wide Quality Improvement efforts.
Clinical Service:
- Works effectively with staff and other health professionals to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and improve patient care.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with practice standards and regulations applicable to the area of specialty.
- Complete officer of the day duties including crisis response to clients in need and supporting other providers in moments of crisis.
- Is competent to access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job-related responsibilities.
- Provides culturally informed and relevant education to clients/family with an age-appropriate lens, is aware of various environmental and psychological impacts of societal, cultural and academic readiness.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with the recipients of psychological services.
- Develop evidence-based intervention plans specific to the service delivery goals.
- Implement interventions informed by the current scientific literature, assessment findings, diversity characteristics, and contextual variables.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply the relevant research literature to clinical decision making.
- Modify and adapt evidence-based approaches effectively when a clear evidence-base is lacking.
- Evaluate intervention effectiveness and adapt intervention goals and methods consistent with ongoing evaluation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Provides services to clients in the clinical setting, in the community, and in client homes as needs indicate and in collaboration with clinical and program supervisor and team.
Other:
- Attend trainings and participate in events relevant to key responsibilities
- Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas
- Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate degree in social work, psychology or related field, and active registration with the California BBS/BOP (e.g. PhD, PSYD, LCSW, MFT, ASW, and AMFT) or recently graduated from a Master's program and having started the process or eligible for registration with the BBS.
- Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of modern clinical psychology, including abnormal psychology, personality theory, diagnostic interviewing, psychotherapy - including brief therapy and behavior change, basics of case management, systems theory, family therapy, community psychology, and community mental health.
