Job Description - Chair, Department of Pediatrics & Pediatrician-in-Chief (28588) As the administrative leader, the Chair is responsible for the growth and advancement of clinical services, research, and education. Responsibilities include overseeing quality, efficiency, and access to clinical care; patient experience; developing faculty and trainees; strengthening collaborative departmental relationships; and enhancing outreach activities. The Chair will serve in a dual academic and clinical leadership role that reflects the joint nature of the FIU/Nicklaus affiliation, reporting to both university and health‑system leadership to advance shared strategic priorities. Job Summary Oversee the growth and advancement of the Department across FIU and Nicklaus Children’s while fostering a culture of excellence. Lead academic strategy, recruit and develop a diverse faculty, cultivate mentorship, and promote scholarly activity. Execute clinical and operational leadership by partnering with the Chief Physician Executive and higher health‑system leaders. Job Specific Duties As SVP and President of NCPS: a) Provide executive leadership for a multispecialty pediatric group with over 300 providers. b) Guide clinical integration strategies, value‑based care initiatives, and growth of services. c) Accountable for clinical quality, financial performance, physician engagement, and recruitment. d) Represent NCPS in community, payer, and academic forums. e) Serve as a Senior Vice President and Executive Leader of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. As Chair, Department of Pediatrics at FIU HWCOM: a) Lead academic strategy for the Department across education, research, and service missions. b) Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and dynamic academic faculty. c) Collaborate with other department chairs and senior leadership to advance research enterprise and UME/GME programs. d) Foster mentorship, innovation, and scholarly productivity. As Pediatrician‑in‑Chief: a) Serve as the senior physician leader of the FIU‑Nicklaus partnership. b) Drive alignment of clinical and academic missions. c) Develop signature programs in pediatric health aligned with institutional goals. d) Represent the partnership regionally and nationally to promote strategic vision and elevate visibility. Develop departmental strategy that achieves desired accomplishments in research, educational programs, clinical care quality, philanthropy, and community service. Demonstrate leadership by engaging in professional practice evaluation and exemplifying high standards of care. Establish communication protocols, clinical practice principles, and collaboration expectations within the Department. Create a patient‑centric care model and foster a culture of excellence for patients and communities serviced by Nicklaus Children’s. Encourage a collaborative approach to pediatric care with other medical leaders, strengthening relationships to align with the mission of clinical excellence and standardized care. Establish, support, and grow important relationships within Nicklaus Children’s and Florida International University to strengthen collaboration among multidisciplinary teams. Guide, mentor, and develop staff to build internal capabilities and ensure succession planning. Expand the scholarly activities of the Department through breakthrough research, publishing, and excellent training programs. Collaborate with clinical leadership to expand clinical trials and research activities within the existing Nicklaus Children’s framework. Work collaboratively across both institutions to grow the research enterprise and improve the HERD ranking through talent acquisition and growth in grant funding. Lead the growth of GME education programs, including the addition of new fellowships and the elevation of the profile, reputation, and quality of training programs. Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from an accredited medical school Doctor of Medicine eligible for Florida state medical license and in good standing with the medical board Board certification in a pediatric specialty Eligibility and academic credentials consistent with appointment as Professor at FIU HWCOM 7‑10 years of experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team More than 10 years of clinical experience beyond board certification 4‑7 years of administrative experience 4‑7 years of experience in performance improvement, research and publishing 4‑7 years of experience in research and teaching with academic pediatrics 4‑7 years of prior engagement in clinical research, protocol development, and scholarly activities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proven track record as an outstanding leader capable of guiding a contemporary Department of Pediatrics A strong record of accomplishment as a practicing physician with superb technical skills and a reputation for producing the highest quality clinical results A visionary with a strong grasp of what a nationally known pediatric program should be and the ability to build consensus around attainment of this goal among constituents A systems thinker with a proven ability to navigate and execute in a large complex healthcare organization Open and direct communication style and a collegial presence that encourages consensus building, collaboration, and cooperation Expertise in developing sustained clinical excellence through advancing patient outcomes, processes, and a better patient and provider experience Experience in cultivating strong alignment and working relationships with other specialties, external affiliates, and community providers to promote pediatric care across the region Proven commitment to diversity and inclusion at all levels of the Department faculty, students, trainees, and staff Ability to articulate a clear vision for growth, expansion, and evolution of the Department; uncompromising standards of professionalism and an ability to take a larger institutional view, inclusive of working collaboratively with other departments, divisions, and institutes #J-18808-Ljbffr Miami Children’s Hospital
