Title Vice President of Communications Organization LGBTQ Victory Fund and LGBTQ Victory Institute Location Washington, DC Reports to Chief Operating Officer (President & CEO) Salary $130,000-$150,000 Summary The Vice President of Communications reports to the Chief Operating Officer and serves on the organizations’ leadership team. They directly supervise the senior digital strategist, senior communications and marketing manager, and press secretary. The Vice President of Communications sets and guides communications strategies for the organizations, manages the communications team and serve as a spokesperson for the organizations. This includes leading the organizations’ media relations, digital and social media strategy, email fundraising and digital acquisitions, marketing efforts and a coming brand redesign. They also lead communications and public relations efforts around fundraising and programmatic events and support LGBTQ candidates and elected officials with their communications needs. Operating in a fast-paced, multi-channel environment, the Vice President of Communications oversees earned media, social media, web and email strategy, marketing campaigns, and event-based communications support. This leader is responsible for elevating brand recognition and strengthening organizational identity across both organizations by leveraging existing relationships with media, partners, and influencers, and proactively identifies new opportunities to expand reach and impact. The Vice President of Communications will help scale communications systems and infrastructure and is expected to assess, build, and grow the communications team over time as organizational needs evolve. General Responsibilities Manage, mentor and lead a growing communications team, building capacity and structure as organizational needs evolve. Develop and execute a strategic communications plan that increases the visibility and brand awareness of the organizations and cultivates relationships with media and key influencers. Leverage existing relationships and cultivate new partnerships with media, influencers, and key stakeholders to secure beneficial coverage and elevate brand recognition. Oversee multi-channel content strategy and execution across owned platforms, including websites, social media, email, and marketing collateral, ensuring consistency in voice, creative, and timing. Provide strategic communications support for fundraising and programmatic events, including narrative development, run-of-show messaging, speaker preparation, staging and design, and rapid-turn or on-site communications support as needed. Oversee and expand communications services available to candidates and elected officials, including rapid response and crisis communications support. Lead digital strategy and performance, overseeing website strategy and execution in partnership with internal and external resources to improve user experience, content governance, accessibility, and conversion. Establish performance measurement and insights, including metrics, dashboards, and reporting rhythms to track communications and marketing effectiveness and inform decision-making. Drive brand and marketing strategy, prioritizing marketing collateral and brand awareness initiatives—including the annual report and other publications—and ensuring consistent brand stewardship across platforms, materials, and events. Serve as a primary spokesperson and senior point of contact in high-importance media situations, in close partnership with the President & CEO. Develop and manage the communications department budget, establish goals, and monitor team performance and outcomes. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; At least 10 years’ experience in media relations and communications; including experience in managing and growing a high-performing communications department; Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive communications plan, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization’s mission and goals; Excellent and persuasive communicator who can connect with diverse audiences – from reporters to donors to board members; Ability to balance competing priorities and perform a wide variety of tasks over the course of the workday; Ability and willingness to work in rapid response situations where urgency is a necessity; Exceptional writing, proofreading and editing skills; Existing relationships with reporters is a major plus; and Interest in and knowledge of the LGBTQ movement and U.S. politics.
