Position Summary

Under direction, performs echocardiography techniques. This role does not scan independently until incumbent passes registration and meets departmental competency assessment.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs echocardiograms and Doppler studies and explains procedures to patients and/or guardians. Utilizes portable equipment as necessary for performing echocardiograms on patients.
• Performs quality assurance related activities. Maintains statistics, checks equipment, performs preventative maintenance and initiates calls for equipment service as necessary.
• Assists in the scheduling of patients requiring an echocardiogram.
• Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times.
• Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed.
• Records data, calculations and measurements of echocardiograms according to its anomaly.
• Completes and distributes completed reports, digitized studies and videotapes as needed.
• Assists with training fellows, visiting physicians, medical students and staff in the performance and interpretation of echocardiogram and Doppler studies.
• Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.
• Attends workshops, seminars and/or conferences to keep abreast of standards and best practices within the field. Disseminates information to colleagues and/or staff as appropriate.

Education

• Associate's Degree

Experience

• Recent graduate of a CAAHEP or Bachelors degree program with a concentration in Echocardiography.
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry eligible status. Must pass registry within two months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated working knowledge of echo-contrast and stress echocardiography.

Licenses and Certifications

• ARDMS Certification
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry eligible status
• BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.
