Jr Staff Accountant

Junior AccountantThis position requires an associate's degree in Business Administration in Accounting or Finance or entry level experience with 1-3 years' in a non-profit environment or applicable related experience. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of general accounting and financial management, knowledgeable of computers, with the ability to understand accounting systems, spreadsheets, and other financial data systems is required. The ability to direct the creation of clear and concise financial reports to aid in the functioning of the Agency, relying on a strong analytical background, is required. Excellent oral and written communication and well-developed presentation skills are required.The Junior Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss and other related financial activities. This includes but not limited to verifies and reconciles daily cash receipts and deposits received and records all transactions including withdrawals received in the bank. Reconciling bank accounts and other transactions recorded on the general ledger.Daily recording of bank transactions and journal entries into the accounting system (MIP). Including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Cash ReceiptsProcess accounts receivables and revenues from all sourcesTo assist with the month-end close.To match grant billings (vouchers) to general ledger receivable/revenue.To run revenue/expenditure reports by grant monthly for grant accountants.To scan data to electronic files as needed.To gather documents as needed.To check grant files to assure grant data is current.To assist with the year-end close.To assist accounting staff with gathering data/documents as needed to facilitate the annual close.Generate or prepare monthly reportsCreate the AP vendor list and updates as neededWork closely with Grants accountant to reconcile foundation expenditures.Work closely with Housing Liaison to track/reconcile landlord and client rents.AuditsCoordinating and supporting financial and operational audits.Assist with pre-audit preparation activities.Support the fiscal year end close.Attention to detail: The Junior Accountant will have to reconcile accounts, noticing any discrepancies and miscalculations. This requires strong observation skills and keen attention to detail. Incorrect information can throw a budget off track and cause incorrect reporting. Problem-solving skills: Junior Accountants work closely with the accounting team and upper management. The ability to identify a problem and resolve it appropriately is critical to resolving potential mistakes. Reconciling accounts requires a comparison between reports, accounts and line items. Locating a discrepancy and resolving the error is easiest when you can identify the problem and take the steps to resolve it without excessive time spent. Skill with technology: Junior Accountants will benefit most from being adept with technology. Accounting software, spreadsheet programs and standard email are all key elements in this type of work. Being comfortable with these programs will enable the candidate to succeed as a Junior Accountant. Communication: Because Junior Accountants interact with multiple staff members, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively is beneficial to a productive individual.
