Staff Accountant (Greenwich)

The Staff Accountant and Business Analyst support the finance team's daily, monthly, and quarterly close processes while building a working knowledge of the business itself includes general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and recurring financial reporting. This role will be direct support to Director of Accounting and Finance including reconciling and preparing support schedules. while also acting as AP processor and assisting with intercompany invoicing, fixed asset maintenance, and special projects.

Beyond the numbers, this person is expected to develop a clear understanding of BH Shoe's operating metrics, sales flow, and day-to-day operations, and to bring that perspective into financial discussions and decision-making. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, comfort with multiple financial systems, sound business judgment, and the ability to manage competing deadlines independently.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger & Journal Entries

• Prepare and post daily income/sales entries and monthly journal entries, including accruals and prepaid expenses.

• Compile and analyze account information to prepare asset, liability, and accrual entries, and document transactions in the general ledger system.

Reconciliations & Reporting

• Download and reconcile merchant statements of account; research and resolve financial discrepancies.

• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and prepare related schedules and analysis.

• Compile monthly and weekly reports, including a financial statement analysis/comparison flash page that flags trends and variances relevant to business decisions.

• Assist with quarterly balance sheet review, financial statement consolidation, and month-end variance analysis.

Accounts Payable & Disbursements

• Code and classify AP and other financial transactions; serve as AP processor.

• Review and prepare broker templates for ocean freight and duty.

• Prepare authorized refund vouchers and third-party brand payout disbursements, verifying monthly sales and return authorization documentation.

• Process travel expense reports in Concur and serve as the AMEX administrator.

Fixed Assets, Intercompany & Special Projects

• Maintain fixed asset records in Thomson Reuters software.

• Handle intercompany invoicing and monthly reconciliations with sister divisions.

• Assist with miscellaneous projects and ad hoc requests as assigned.

Audit, Compliance & Controls

• Gather documentation and support internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to GAAP and IRS guidelines.

• Assist with quarterly compliance audits (post-entry HTS review).

• Research and interpret accounting policy and regulations to answer procedural questions; maintain financial security through database backups and internal controls.

Business Analysis & Decision Support

• Develop a working understanding of BH Shoe's business metrics, sales trends, and day-to-day operating flow across its brands.

• Translate financial data into insights that inform business decisions, partnering with sales, merchandising, and operations as needed.

• Identify trends, variances, and opportunities in financial results, and communicate their business implications to management.

• Continuously build commercial and operational knowledge to bring a financial perspective to broader business discussions.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

• 2-5 years of relevant work experience in general accounting or a similar role.

• Strong foundation in general accounting, corporate finance, and financial statement analysis.

• Excellent attention to detail, time management, and data entry accuracy.

• Deadline-oriented, with strong reporting and presentation skills.

• Comfortable researching and interpreting accounting policy to resolve procedural questions.

• Curiosity about the business: sales trends, merchandising, and operations, paired with the ability to connect financial results to what's driving them.

• Comfortable partnering with non-finance teams and communicating a financial point of view within broader business decisions.

• For candidates newer to business analysis, a demonstrated aptitude and interest in developing these skills over time.
