Laboratory Support Technician/Phlebotomist

A brief overview: Performs specimen procurement and/or processing of laboratory specimens. Provides laboratory support functions.

What you will do:

• Organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards.
• Performs computer data entry, laboratory processes including sterile technique, aliquoting and/or phlebotomy.
• Processes specimens for laboratory testing competent in the collection or processing of specialized samples.
• Performs with minimal error rate.
• Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists.
• Needs minimal supervision and problems solves with little or no supervision.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and other accredited program: Formal training from an accredited phlebotomy school or medical assistant program (preferred).
• Work experience: 1+ years phlebotomy experience (Required) or 1+ years specimen processing experience (Required) or less than 1 year Funding Healthcare Futures Program Participant (entry level) (Required).
• Knowledge, skills, & abilities: Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers. Takes responsibility for self-development. Working knowledge of pre-analytic laboratory and safety policies and procedures. Displays initiative to perform job duties. Ability to work in fast paced environment. Ability to multi-task. Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members. Competent on venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick for all ages.
• Licenses and certifications: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Phlebotomy Certification (preferred) (Preferred upon hire).
