Payroll Processing Coordinator

Job Summary Towson University (TU) is a top‑100 public university and one of the nation’s great colleges to work for. Under general supervision, the Payroll Processing Coordinator functions as a primary resource for supporting the payroll team through updating spreadsheets, running contract payments, and supporting all payroll processing. The role provides services to all divisions of Towson University and requires knowledge of payroll practices and procedures. Responsibilities and Duties Run FACS and Additional Compensation contracts; update and review all payroll spreadsheets; process flat‑rate forms and secondary employment. Provide backup for Graduate Assistant and student employee entry, employment verifications, student employee terminations, pay‑rate changes, and federal work‑study recertifications; assist employees at payroll counter with questions. Coordinate with HR Leave Benefits Specialist to receive and process leave adjustments and balance information for terminated and retired regular faculty and staff. Run regular and contingent leave processes bi‑weekly. Research, analyze, and resolve technical payroll and timesheet questions; audit payroll timesheet queries; coordinate with OHR on leave‑related timesheet questions. Send follow‑up reports after each payroll to employees and supervisors regarding outstanding payroll technical timesheets or questions. Serve as support for future project implementations and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills High School Diploma or equivalent. Four years of payroll experience, including at least two years involving state and federal payroll regulations and use of tax tables to determine deductions. Thorough knowledge of complex and specialized payroll rules. Ability to run and troubleshoot payroll processes. Ability to provide excellent customer service and multi‑task. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis, with 30 college credits equaling one year of experience. Salary and Benefits Annual salary: $49,582; full University benefits including annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days, health, life, and retirement plans, and tuition remission. Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit. If applicable, a 2.5% increase may be added to the annual salary after successful completion of the initial six‑month probationary period.
