Job Details Job Location: Elder Services - Baltimore, MD, Salary Range: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 Salary, Job Category: Staff Member, POSITION SUMMARY: POSITION SUMMARY Civic Works, Inc. seeks a creative, independent individual who has leadership experience and a working knowledge of the construction trade. The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week and receive salary plus benefits including short and long-term disability, supported health care, 401k and dental. ABOUT CIVIC WORKS INC. Civic Works strengthens Baltimore’s communities through education, skills development, and community service. Our key program areas include community improvement, workforce development, education, and green programs. Civic Works AmeriCorps members tutor and mentor students, create community parks and gardens, help homeowners conserve energy, grow food for low-income residents, rehabilitate abandoned houses, involve families in Baltimore City schools, make homes safer for older adults, and recruit volunteers. Civic Works also trains Baltimore residents for employment in the healthcare and green job industries. CITIES FOR ALL AGES Civic Works’ Elder Services program strives to ensure that older adults live healthy and successful lives within their Baltimore communities. Free services are offered to adults (ages 65+) living in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. These services include Home Repair, Home Safety Modifications, Case Management, Community Outreach and Education, and Information and Referral. According to AARP, the Census Bureau estimated that close to 8 million people in the United States had turned 85 by 2020. One of the most common problems facing older adults is living in a home that no longer matches their needs and abilities. By assessing home safety risks, addressing fall hazards, installing rails, and improving lighting conditions, the Elder Services construction team helps prevent accidents at home. While improving the home environment, the Elder Services construction team can also evaluate additional potential needs of seniors, including occupational therapy. Additional information is available through the program to help connect seniors with benefits and services around the city and county. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Reviews and performs home assessments, focusing on safety and home repair needs. Adds/modifies items as needed, within budget constraints. Improves the condition of homes through direct repairs/improvements. Able to perform/install: safety renovations, railings, door handles and locks, minor electrical and plumbing, minor structural, etc. Able to finish jobs in a timely manner without extra return visits. Works around client time constraints. Safeguards program financial resources through creative and economical procurement of tools and supplies. Maintains trucks/vehicles and keeps appropriate tools and supplies as needed in vehicles. Maintains tools and inventory. Coordinates work of outside contractors and assists in negotiating favorable contracts. Collaborates with program staff, volunteers, trainees and allies to meet client and program goals. Maintains accurate records of: work, time, inventory, purchases, contractors, etc. Assists in training tasks for Construction Apprentice(s). Maintains and ensures client privacy. Responds quickly and appropriately to voicemail, text and/or e-mail correspondence. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE High School diploma or Equivalent Trade school or construction degree preferred 5 + years of construction experience Experience working with older adults preferred Leadership or management experience SKILLS AND ABILITIES Drivers License (A driving record Will be requested as well) A Drug test and a Criminal Background check will be required Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems. #J-18808-Ljbffr
