The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room delivers coordinated nursing care for patients according to established standards of care and the nursing process. This role involves supervising and directing the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff. Nurses coordinate care with other disciplines while utilizing critical thinking, professional discretion, and independent judgment. Essential functions include: Collecting relevant data pertinent to patients' health or situation. Analyzing assessment data to determine diagnosis and care issues. Developing a plan that prescribes interventions to attain outcomes. Implementing the plan, coordinating care delivery, and promoting health and a safe environment. Evaluating progress toward attaining outcomes. Identifying outcomes for patients or their situations. Collaborating with the patient, family, and healthcare providers in providing care in a safe and humane environment. Providing learning opportunities for patients, family members, and team members. Directly providing health information to patients, families, and treatment teams. Participating in discharge planning to ensure continuity of care. Delegating appropriately and coordinating duties of healthcare team members. Performing other job-related duties as assigned. This department provides triage, treatment, and support for trauma and emergency patients of all ages in an acute care setting.
