It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work This entry-level analyst position with the Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission involves reviewing Post Release supervision and parole cases, compiling offender information, preparing a detailed written case analyses, and recommending parole or supervision conditions. The role uses multiple criminal justice databases and requires assessing public safety factors, offense details, and offender behavior. The analyst also responds to inquiries from offenders and stakeholders including victims and may coordinate releases to other states or jurisdictions including releases to pending charges and detainers. Knowledge of parole law, Commission policies, corrections systems, offender behavior, and community resources is essential. Job Duties: Review and analyze post-release supervision and parole cases. Compile offender background information and develop case summaries. Prepare recommendations regarding parole feasibility and supervision conditions. Use criminal justice databases including OPUS, CJLEADS, court and DMV records. Assess public safety risks, offense circumstances, and offender behavior. Respond to inquiries from offenders, families, victims, attorneys, and other parties. Coordinate release processes with other jurisdictions when necessary. Interpret relevant statutes, policies, and sentencing guidelines. The DCS mission is to ensure public safety while helping offenders make positive changes and successfully complete their supervision. DCS collaborates closely with the NCPost-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, the court system as well as other state agencies, and community partners, particularly those addressing mental health, substance use and re-entry issues faced by our returning citizens. DCS is also responsible for the supervision of offenders who transfer from other states through the Interstate Compact program and has oversight of the Community Service Work Program.
