Job Title: Quality Control Inspector Job Description

The Quality Control Inspector performs comprehensive quality inspections on structural and piping welding, piping fabrication, and the assembly of fabricated structures. This role focuses on visual and dimensional inspections, verification of assembly and testing, and may include field inspections when required. The inspector ensures that all products meet applicable design requirements, industry codes, and internal quality standards, while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting continuous improvement within the quality function.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed visual inspections of welded parts and assemblies to verify compliance with applicable design requirements and quality standards.

• Interpret drawings, procedures, work instructions, and specifications to determine product acceptance and ensure alignment with engineering and quality criteria.

• Conduct dimensional inspections on piece parts and assemblies in accordance with design documents, both within the manufacturing facility and, as needed, at supplier locations or customer sites.

• Monitor, witness, and record results of component testing, including hydrostatic testing, coating verification, and other process audits, in accordance with documented procedures.

• Prepare clear and accurate non-conformance reports when products do not meet specified requirements, and complete all associated quality documentation.

• Ensure all inspection and testing activities are thoroughly documented, including measurements, test results, and any corrective actions taken.

• Assist in training other personnel in inspection techniques, procedures, and quality requirements as directed by management or as needed for specific tasks.

• Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement of processes and products.

• Perform field inspections when required to verify quality and compliance at off-site locations.

• Maintain adherence to relevant welding, construction, and quality codes and standards during all inspection activities.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of two years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, or quality management.

• Minimum of two years of experience working with ISO-9001 or similar quality management systems.

• Minimum of two years of experience with industry codes and standards such as ASME Section VIII, IX, V, ASME B31.9, ASME B31.3, ISO-9001, AWS D1.1, SSPC, or similar welding, construction, and quality codes.

• Minimum Level I NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) inspection experience, with Level II preferred, and at least three years of NDE inspection experience.

• Proficiency in visual inspection techniques for welds and fabricated assemblies.

• Strong dimensional inspection skills, including the ability to use measurement tools accurately and interpret dimensional requirements.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.

• Solid understanding of quality control principles, inspection methods, and documentation practices.

• Experience with hydrostatic testing and related quality verification processes.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify non-conformances and potential quality issues.

• Effective written communication skills for preparing non-conformance reports and completing inspection records.

• Ability to work within established procedures and quality management systems to ensure consistent product quality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with AWS, ASME, ISO, and SSPC codes and standards in a manufacturing or construction environment.

• Background in weld inspection and quality control within structural or piping fabrication.

• Familiarity with coating inspection and related surface preparation standards.

• Ability to perform inspections in manufacturing, warehouse, and field environments.

• Experience assisting in the training of other personnel in quality and inspection practices.

• Strong data recording and documentation skills to support audits and compliance requirements.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production and engineering.

• Comfort working with both piece-part and assembly-level inspections.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing and warehouse environment that is non-climate controlled. You will work around structural and piping fabrication operations, welding activities, and assembly processes, and may occasionally perform inspections at supplier locations or customer sites. The position may involve day and night shifts, including standard and overtime hours, with a night shift differential available. Work is hands-on and may require standing, walking, and moving between different areas of the facility to perform visual and dimensional inspections, witness testing such as hydrostatic testing, and verify coatings and other quality-related processes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
