Assistant Middle School Volleyball Coach Starting Date: Aug 31, 2026 Job Description SUMMARY: The Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the Head Volleyball Coach in planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive volleyball program that promotes athletic skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, academic achievement, and personal growth. The Assistant Coach provides instruction and supervision to student‑athletes, assists with practices and competitions, ensures compliance with Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) rules and district policies, and helps foster a positive, safe, and inclusive athletic environment that reflects the mission and values of Chief Leschi Schools. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Implements and enforces all decisions and directives of the head coach. Assists the head coach with planning and conducting all practice sessions consistent with the plan of implementation. Maintains a current and accurate squad roster at all times, ensuring it is on file with the head coach. Supports the head coach in conducting the athletic program of the assigned sport and the overall athletic program of the Chief Leschi School system; contributes to team strategies as outlined by the head coach. Demonstrates loyalty to the head coach and the team. Attends team staff meetings as directed by the head coach, athletic director, or building principal. Assumes duties assigned by the head coach pertaining to the sport, including conducting practice drills, handling equipment, determining eligibility, working with student managers, scouting, public relations, and maintaining statistics. In the absence of the head coach, assumes all responsibilities designated to the head coach. Reports any injuries to the head coach and/or athletic director. Assists with equipment inspection, oversees issuance and collection, and maintains equipment inventory records; advises the head coach of any equipment that needs repair or certification. All equipment is the coach’s responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned. Note: This list is representative, not exhaustive. Valid and current first aid certification card or enrollment in a Red Cross first aid course. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree in Physical Education, coaching, or related field; or three or more years of direct coaching experience for a major team sport. Knowledge of WIAA interscholastic activities policies and coaching standards. Experience coaching a diverse student population. Current employee of Chief Leschi Schools. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT Successful criminal background clearance. Successful and/or clear drug screening. KNOWLEDGE OF School board policies and procedures. League and WIAA rules and regulations. Record keeping and report preparation. ABILITY TO Take initiative and work independently. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community. Work with and relate to Native American children and serve as a positive role model. Demonstrate understanding of and experience with cultural competence. Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures. Understand and maintain confidentiality. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Head Volleyball Coach or Athletic Director or designee. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Position may require sitting or standing for extended periods, reaching, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and fine motor coordination. It may also entail regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with appropriate assistance or equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT Primarily performed indoors in an educational setting with moderate noise levels. Employees may work near classrooms, students, and standard office or instructional equipment.
