As a Senior Director leading Risk Management for Business Cards & Payments, you will apply your leadership and analytical skills to our highest profile Risk Management efforts. You will act as a thought leader working across the business to develop and implement cutting edge Risk solutions to ensure Capital One’s continued success. Senior Directors in Capital One’s Card Risk organization partner with Executives, Line of Business, Compliance and Legal associates to develop and implement well-managed risk practices in an open, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

• Utilize data management metrics and insights to influence senior business leaders in a compelling, action-oriented manner

• Apply understanding of data governance processes and controls to proactively mitigate risks 

• Provide strategic program leadership and drive program alignment in a matrixed, highly complex regulated environment 

• Spearhead large scale Risk Management Program Management/Governance

• Design, develop, and manage risk management-focused project plans in a complex dynamic environment, revising needs to meet changing requirements

• Ensure projects are being delivered on time and on budget within a challenging environment while simultaneously managing risk

• Communicate program requirements across the organization, to both internal and external stakeholders as needed

• Partner cross-functionally with project customers to provide strategic and tactical thought partnership to effectively drive project delivery

• Report out on program status, risks, issues and decisions to a wide variety of constituents across the company; flags critical risks and/or concerns to Risk Management and Business Leadership

• Lead critical assessments on risk categories to mitigate risk to the company

• Build relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure delivery of commitments

• Consult strategically with Accountable Executives and partner teams

• Problem-solve with cross-functional teams and partners on an array of issues and opportunities

• Design and drive a transformation vision for your organization

• Identify opportunities for continued improvement in the business

• Partner proactively with partners’ teams, internal business teams, other risk office groups to help document and improve policies, processes, controls, and procedures

• Assist the business in management of audits and regulatory exams

The person will:

• Exhibit outstanding influencing skills to effectively drive projects and program efforts

• Demonstrate a proven track record of excellent project management in a highly regulated environment, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage work in a dynamic complex environment

• Display a passion for coaching and developing others through their leadership style and presence, whether as direct reports, extended team members or third party resources

• Have excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company, as well as external stakeholders and regulatory agencies, to manage, inform and influence outcomes

They have the ability to work with executives to create innovative solutions, and can think strategically, while executing on operational requirements. Additionally the ideal candidate will be:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or military experience

• At least 8 years of experience in Risk Management, Project Management, Operations, Compliance, or Process Management

• At least 8 years of people leadership experience

• At least 7 years of program management experience

• At least 7 years of experience supporting, partnering or interacting with internal business clients

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree or Juris Doctor

• 10+ years of experience in Risk Management, Project Management, Operations, Compliance, or Process Management

• 10+ years of program management experience

• 10+ years of people management experience

• 5+ years of experience leading cross functional programs and projects in risk

• Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $238,700 - $272,400 for Sr. Director, Risk Management

Richmond, VA: $217,000 - $247,700 for Sr. Director, Risk Management

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
