Precertification Specialist – Central Billing Office Location: New York, New York. Shift: Day (United States of America). NewYork‑Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, an 862‑bed medical center affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine, provides comprehensive care in virtually every field of medicine. Responsibilities Ensure timely and accurate processing of pre‑certification requests by verifying insurance coverage and obtaining necessary authorizations via internet, telephone, or fax. Document all actions within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and maintain compliance with payer requirements. Minimize claim denials and support a smooth revenue cycle, contributing to patient satisfaction and organizational financial health. Notify the supervisor of authorization problems to de‑escalate issues. Work independently following established protocols and processes; if a decision falls outside of these protocols, notify the appropriate supervisor for direction. Demonstrate honesty, reliability, confidentiality, and teamwork to accomplish projects. Required Criteria High school diploma or GED. Minimum one year of related experience in insurance verification or pre‑certification. Proficiency with the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Knowledge of insurance verification, obtaining pre‑certifications, and basic medical terminology. Preferred Criteria Bachelor's degree. Human relationship skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel. Proofreading, organizational, time‑management, and multi‑tasking skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Analytical, critical thinking, problem‑identification, and conflict‑resolution abilities.
