It's a reality.As we continue to scale, we're looking for a highly detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team and work closely with our Controller to support Daybreak's accounting operations and financial reporting.The RoleAs a Staff Accountant, you'll work closely with the Controller across the day-to-day accounting function, bi-weekly payroll processing, and monthly close process. You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations and journal entries, supporting accounts payable and receivable, and helping ensure our accounting processes remain organized and scalable as the company grows. This is a hands-on role for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, proactive, and eager to take ownership. You'll have visibility across the business and the opportunity to help improve processes and systems as Daybreak continues to scale.What You'll DoOwn bi-weekly payroll processing and end-to-end payroll administration and multi-state compliance, leveraging strong time management and cross-departmental collaboration to execute seamless offboarding and timely final paycheck processing in accordance with state labor laws.Own the daily revenue and refund postings, and research discrepancies as needed.Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processesPrepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedulesMaintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are accurately recordedSupport accounts payable and accounts receivable processesAssist with accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accountsAssist with financial reporting and preparation of internal management reportsMaintain organized and accurate accounting documentationSupport annual audits, tax filings, and other external reporting requirementsPartner with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting questions and ensure accurate financial dataIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reportingAssist the Controller with ad hoc financial analysis and accounting projectsHelp build scalable accounting processes and infrastructure as Daybreak growsWhat We're Looking For3–5+ years of progressive accounting experienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related fieldStrong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principlesExperience with payroll, month end close, and balance sheet reconciliationsExperience with revenue recognition, billing, or payment-related accountingExperience with payroll and/or expense management platforms such as Justworks, Ramp, or similar systems is a plusExperience working with an ERP or accounting systemStrong Excel/Google Sheets skillsExceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentExcellent written and verbal communication skillsA proactive, ownership-oriented mindset and willingness to roll up your sleevesNice to HaveExperience in a high-growth startup environmentExperience in healthcare, healthcare technology, SaaS, or paymentsExperience supporting audits and tax filingsExperience helping build or improve accounting processes and internal controlsAt Daybreak, you'll have the opportunity to join a growing company at an important stage of its evolution.
