Safety Coordinator

Position Summary This position reports directly to the Risk Manager and is responsible for safety activities within the Risk Management Department for EMSA. The incumbent develops and implements safety training programs to establish clear company and individual responsibility for safety. The role escalates safety issues to or provides information to supervision for resolution. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Safety/HSE or equivalent; or a combination of education and experience. Solid knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, DOT regulations and other standards applicable to EMS. Extensive understanding of infection control practices and workplace hazards, including protective practices to prevent occupational injury, patient injury, and vehicle‑related incidents. Must successfully pass a background check and drug screen to the satisfaction of the organization. Essential Functions of the Position Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive safety training program covering hazard assessment, risk mitigation, training, and education. Develop and conduct new‑hire safety orientation and annual safety training that meets organizational needs and complies with regulatory standards. Review incident reports to ensure proper completion; prepare additional documents as necessary to meet organizational and regulatory reporting requirements. Monitor safety‑related trends and proactively implement strategies, processes, and practices that reduce risk and prevent injuries. Coordinate or lead the organization's health and safety council/committees as appropriate. Support the implementation of annual health and safety fit testing, immunization programs, and other wellness and safety programs. Develop and maintain safety policies and procedures; audit safety practices and recommend corrective actions based on industry standards, best practices, and outcome‑based solutions. Conduct or coordinate safety audits at EMSA facilities to ensure compliance with OSHA and NFPA requirements. Punctuality and reliable, predictable attendance are essential. The position requires professionalism, effective verbal and written communication, confidentiality, sound judgment, adaptability, flexibility, adherence to safety and compliance protocols, accountability, and compliance with the Code of Conduct, organizational policies, procedures, and expectations. Apply logical analysis to solve difficult situations and communicate ideas using proper English grammar and spelling. Meet deadlines, work with changing priorities, and follow instructions. Physical Demands Must withstand extensive sitting and standing while performing duties. Regularly talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle tools and controls; reach with arms; occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; work in close and potentially dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles. Perform strenuous physical requirements such as lifting and moving equipment in varied environmental conditions. Maintain vision sufficient for day‑ and night‑time operations, including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment. Read labels and warnings on containers; understand information provided by employees or bystanders. Work Environment High‑stress environment with occasional exposure to wet, humid, extreme cold, or extreme heat conditions.
