Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Supervising Physician for Edna Mahan Correctional Facility located in Clinton, NJ. The Supervising Physician provides medical services to inmates of the Department of Corrections that are consistent with community standards of care, offers clinical supervision to the assigned physicians and medical nurse practitioners, and serves as a liaison for clinical matters with external medical providers. The position is available on a full‑time basis and requires on‑call availability. Duties Provide clinical and professional supervision, management, and monitoring of physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants in the assigned state prison, including peer reviews of documentation, medication usage, and consult request patterns. Host quarterly meetings for physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants in the region to review CQI issues, policies, and problems. Participate in annual performance evaluations of physicians and nurse practitioners within a region. Work in concert with the Medical Director and regional nurse managers to develop and maintain appropriate medical services within the assigned state prison. Assist in the development and implementation of UCHC policies and procedures, and participate in UCHC continuous quality improvement programs (including corrective action plans, continuing medical education, and best‑practice models). Participate in formal preparation for health‑care reviews, such as National Commission of Correctional HealthCare inspections. Perform routine administrative functions and organizational responsibilities, such as maintaining the monthly provider clinic schedule, approving time‑off requests, reviewing timesheets, and monitoring paid time off and adherence to attendance policy for physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants. Ensure that physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants adhere to all Rutgers, UCHC, and NJDOC conduct and policies, including dress codes and time‑attendance policies. Document progressive discipline of all physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants of the assigned state prison, including termination of appointments in collaboration with the Medical Director. Terms of Appointment Staff – 12 month Qualifications Certifications / Licenses Licensed physician in the State of New Jersey. Current DEA registration, CDS, and CPR certifications. Board certified and qualified by state laws/regulations to practice medicine. Experienced in a primary care specialty. Current driver’s license required; possession of a vehicle or alternative transportation. Computer literacy. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication skills for interaction with upper management and presentation to groups. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to patients, inmates, and other employees. Demonstrated interpersonal skills in a service environment. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees, present information and respond to questions, and handle inquiries, including the most sensitive ones. Ability to interact with a diverse population in a prison setting. Special Conditions Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
