Job Title: CNC Machinist – 2nd Shift

Job Description

This role focuses on complex set-up, operation, and maintenance of CNC mills and lathes in a clean, climate-controlled production environment. The CNC Machinist programs and runs Haas and Mazak equipment, works with a variety of metals, ensures parts meet tight tolerances and quality standards, and may assist in training other machine operators.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Haas mills and lathes, as well as Mazak equipment, to produce precision components.

• Control and adjust machine settings to complete complex machining tasks and meet production requirements.

• Perform machine set-up and changeover, including mechanical adjustments, to produce required products and components according to specifications.

• Complete first-time set-up of equipment for new products through programming, profiling, and mechanical and software adjustments.

• Use Mazatrol programming and G-code to create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for efficient and accurate machining.

• Load raw materials, ensure proper alignment and clamping of workpieces, and verify correct tooling and fixtures are in place.

• Utilize GD&T principles to interpret and apply geometric tolerances in machining and inspection processes.

• Interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.

• Maintain tight tolerances, including holding dimensional accuracy to approximately ±0.002 inches, as required by specifications.

• Operate equipment to achieve daily production targets and quality goals, making minor adjustments to correct machine output as needed.

• Perform manual production operations when required, such as applying labels, placing components, and loading or unloading equipment.

• Visually inspect machine output to verify proper assembly, finish, and workmanship standards are consistently met.

• Inspect finished parts for dimensions, quality, and defects using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.

• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities in accordance with machine operation manuals and maintenance work instructions.

• Deburr machined parts and perform any required finishing steps to meet quality and safety standards.

• Maintain neat and orderly work areas, follow established safety rules, and contribute to a clean, organized production environment.

• Collaborate with team members and, when needed, assist with training other machine operators on equipment operation and best practices.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a CNC Machinist with hands-on set-up and operation of CNC mills and lathes.

• Strong proficiency in G-code programming for CNC machines.

• Ability to set up and operate Haas CNC mills and lathes in a production environment.

• Experience working with Fanuc controls on CNC equipment.

• Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.

• Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify part dimensions and quality.

• Ability to maintain tight tolerances, including approximately ±0.002 inches, on machined components.

• Working knowledge of GD&T and its application to machining and inspection.

• Capability to perform CNC set-up and changeover, including tooling, fixtures, and program adjustments.

• Experience inspecting finished parts for dimensions, quality, and defects, and documenting results as required.

• Ability to perform routine maintenance on CNC machines following documented procedures.

• Strong attention to detail, workmanship, and adherence to quality standards.

• Comfort working with materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and copper.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Mazatrol programming and operation on Mazak machines.

• Experience in machining within the aerospace industry.

• Experience working in an ITAR-compliant manufacturing facility.

• Experience in an AS9100-certified environment with established quality systems.

• Familiarity with Mastercam or similar CAM software for programming CNC machines.

• Experience with vertical and horizontal CNC milling centers.

• Ability to deburr and finish parts to meet high-quality standards.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make effective adjustments to improve part quality and process efficiency.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility focused on precision CNC machining. The work area includes three horizontal Haas CNC machines and four vertical Haas CNC machines, along with Mazak equipment. The position is on 2nd shift, typically from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The environment emphasizes organization, safety, and adherence to documented processes, with a strong focus on quality and consistent production output.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rolling Meadows, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
