Pay Range: $30–$36 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

About the Role

Our Budget & Finance Department supports a growing family of affiliated companies spanning tax, bookkeeping, audit, and manufacturing operations. We are adding a Staff Accountant with foundational accounting experience who is ready to take ownership of recurring processes while continuing to develop toward senior-level responsibilities.

You'll take on the recurring, process-driven work that keeps month-end and annual audits running smoothly, freeing up senior team members to focus on review, technical judgment calls, and higher-level reporting. You'll work closely with our Senior Accountant, with a clear growth path as you take on more complex, judgment-based work.

What You'll Do

● Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations as part of the month-end close process

● Own recurring, process-driven tasks that support an accurate and timely month-end close, enabling senior staff to focus on review, technical accounting matters, and higher-level reporting

● Assist with corporate, 401k, and ESOP audit preparation by pulling schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to auditor requests under senior guidance

● Support accounts payable and expense report processing (including sharing coverage for Certify/expense report administration) across multiple entities

● Help maintain and improve documented procedures for recurring processes as the team scales and cross-trains

● Perform general ledger reviews and flag discrepancies using existing reporting tools

● Assist with data entry, cleanup, and reconciliation work in our ERP systems (Sage Intacct, QuickBooks) — including support for newly acquired or onboarding entities

● Collaborate with the Senior Accountant, incorporate feedback on accounting techniques and processes, and progressively take on review-level responsibilities as skills and experience develop

● Support ad hoc requests from the BFD Controller and executive team as needed

What You Bring

● Two to four years of accounting experience in a public or private accounting environment and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

● Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting and month-end close processes, with the ability to complete assigned close activities accurately and escalate questions or discrepancies appropriately

● Working knowledge of an ERP/accounting system (Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar); comfort picking up new systems

● Proficient in Excel — comfortable with basic formulas (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) and able to create and manage pivot tables

● Strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in understanding the "why" behind a process, not just the steps

● Comfortable asking questions and taking direction, while showing initiative on repeatable, well-defined tasks

● Clear, professional communication — you'll interact with team members across our affiliated companies
