Auxiliary Assistant

Under the general direction of the Associate Director of the Harris Family Center for Disability and Health Policy (HFCDHP), the Auxiliary Assistant provides various duties as assigned, which may include proctoring exams and quizzes, serving as a reader, scribe, or visual describer in various instructional environments, and assisting in the classroom, lab, and clinical environment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: administering academic exams in an educational setting; knowledge of lab equipment and safety procedures. Skill: excellent communication skills. Ability to: demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism; perform duties as instructed; operate a computer and manipulate needed items to complete the assignment. Required Qualifications Education: high school diploma or GED. Experience or training: previous experience administering academic exams; knowledge of lab equipment and safety procedures; ability to follow directions. Preferred Qualifications Education: A.A. or A.S. degree or completion of 60 units of college credits; appropriate academic background, with STEM backgrounds preferred. Key Responsibilities Test‑taking assistance: take dictation/record answers for quizzes/exams/assessments; prepare the testing area; check in/check out students; resolve questions; observe test taking; and collect materials at the end of the exam. Follow all safety procedures in the lab and classroom. Physically manipulate lab materials; adjust and move lab equipment; take dictation to record lab data and complete worksheets as directed by the student. In‑class assistance: describe images and other visual information; assist with in‑class assignments (read/scribe) at the direction of the student. Physical Demands Frequent use of hands to operate a PC; sit, reach with hands and arms; occasionally stand, walk, stoop, and smell. Lifting and/or moving up to 15 pounds occasionally.
