Assistant to the Director of Buildings and Grounds McKeesport Area School District – McKeesport, Pennsylvania Job ID: 5815331 Application Deadline: Jul 18, 2026 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time) Posted: Jul 03, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Assistant to the Director of Buildings and Grounds – Responsible for assisting in the supervision and management of building and grounds maintenance and custodial staff, ensuring compliance with regulation and maintaining the physical plant in condition of excellence. Acts with full authority for the operation of the maintenance and custodial staffs in the absence of the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Performance Responsibilities Assist in supervising the afternoon and/or daylight shift covering maintenance staff, custodians, summer workers, watchmen, grounds keepers, utility persons, secretary and substitutes performing maintenance or custodial services. Maintain the school plant and facilities in operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety, ensuring compliance with A.D.A., O.S.H.A., Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and A.H.E.R.A. Assist in comprehensive planning and scheduling of maintenance, custodial, and repair requirements. Establish appropriate maintenance, groundskeeping, security, and custodial schedules and procedures for each school building. Perform unscheduled inspections of all facilities to ensure timely completion of maintenance and custodial activities. Coordinate purchase of custodial supplies and equipment. Supervise the summer cleaning program and scheduling. Oversee formulations and applications of fungicides, herbicides, and restricted pesticides. Recommend personnel assignments and terminations within the area of supervision. Schedule work routines for assigned employees. Inspect buildings, grounds, and installations for workmanship, cleanliness, safety, and security standards. Maintain coordinated inventory control program for the physical plant department. Assist with fire alarm system and extinguisher maintenance. Coordinate pressure vessel maintenance with designated employees. Monitor heating systems, freezers, pools, and other areas during weekends and holidays as required. Perform additional tasks assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds as necessary. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance and custodial experience; supervisory experience preferred. Basic computer skills. Knowledgeable in all aspects of custodial and grounds operations. Experience in implementing employee training programs and safe chemical use. Ability to evaluate job descriptions and assign work, conduct quality inspections, and follow‑up procedures. Management skills to supervise staff, prepare reports, evaluate performance, and work with union contracts. Flexibility to work varied schedules. Capable of understanding and adapting to alternative qualifications acceptable to the Board. Position Type Full‑time Job Requirements Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
