Assistant Manager II, Retail Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center Organization Description: Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) has served as the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, collaborating with the Presidio Trust, partners, donors, and the community to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The GGNRA stretches across three Bay Area counties, north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge, and includes iconic places such as Muir Woods National Monument, Fort Point National Historic Site, Alcatraz Island, Crissy Field, Mori Point, Lands End, and the Presidio of San Francisco. Branch Description: The Interpretive Centers and Sales Branch is responsible for developing and operating Interpretive Centers throughout the Golden Gate National Parks, providing visitor information, orientation, and other direct services. Conservancy Interpretive Centers provide educational, functional, and proprietary park merchandise alongside changing park exhibits. The Branch develops park books, maps, interpretive, and branded products. It also manages warehouses and distribution, operates the Muir Woods Fee Collection program, and develops products for the Conservancy wholesale and online sales programs. Interpretive Centers include Alcatraz Park Stores, Muir Woods Visitor Center, Lands End Lookout, The Warming Hut, Fort Point Park Store, Presidio Visitor Center, and the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center. Position Overview: This is a non-exempt, regular, full-time, benefited position working 40 hours per week and at least one weekend day in addition to most holidays. Work is performed at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, a busy Interpretive Center on the Visitor Plaza of the Golden Gate Bridge. Work includes walking to other sites within the Presidio as well as visiting other Park sites to develop familiarity and knowledge that we share with our visitors. Employees of the Parks Conservancy are expected to wear a uniform and to adhere to professional appearance standards. We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified person to fill the position of Retail Assistant Manager II (Assistant Manager) at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center. The Assistant Manager supports the Manager in all aspects of operations at the Welcome Center. A wide range of responsibilities include training staff and maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive work environment. The Assistant Manager is a leader who provides orientation and interpretive training for our team and promotes the Parks Conservancy mission and vision of Parks for All Forever. In addition, the Assistant Manager helps the manager control expenses and achieve the highest sales potential for our site. The Assistant Manager maintains and troubleshoots the retail POS system and uses the Inventory system to analyze reports to help us maximize revenue and profit for the Parks. The Assistant Manager always represents the Parks Conservancy positively and promotes visitor satisfaction and effective collaboration with the National Park Service, the Presidio Trust, and the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District. procedures, drills, and training (Covid-19, First Aid, Fire, Earthquake, Active Shooter) Personnel Management Assist the Manager with recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations, employee discipline, and terminations Provide feedback and coaching to Team Leads and staff to help them to maintain performance standards With the help of the Team Leads, manage the workflow and daily schedules of the Welcome Center for efficiency Fiscal and Business Management Assist the Manager in achieving sales goals and monitoring the budgetManage cash reconciliation, bookkeeping, change orders, and bank deposits Order non-merchandise and safety supplies, delegating ordering to Team Leads as needed Manage information resources including all binders, logs, FAQs, and journals, making sure they are filled out, maintained, and utilized Help Manager plan hours of operation, staffing levels, procedures, and other factors that influence sales and customer service Train and motivate staff to ask for donations at the Point of Sale and be able to explain where the money goes Inventory Management Supervise all staff according to standards set by Manager and Assistant Manager Inventory Assist the Manager and Assistant Manager Inventory in ordering and controlling inventory levels Assist Manager and Assistant Manager Inventory in re-ordering merchandise from our warehouse as needed Help to plan, prepare, and execute annual inventory Process merchandise transfers and stockouts Oversee merchandise pricing and signage in coordination with Manager and Assistant Manager Inventory Facilities Management Report facilities and maintenance issues to the appropriate parties – use work order system when appropriate Monitor cleaning and garbage services for quality control – communicating concerns to vendors and contractors Maintain radios in good operating condition Help maintain Club Car in good working order Visitor Information, Orientation, and Interpretation Promote the appreciation and understanding of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Golden Gate National Parks and show staff how to do so as well Become familiar with Golden Gate National Park sites, events, activities, and recent developments Participate in and plan hikes and other excursions to other park sites Be knowledgeable and train others about how to visit other park sites – days and hours of operation, transportation to and from, fares and fees, etc. Be able to describe how to visit various sites by car, bicycle, bus, or on footLearn about the history and significance of the Bridge and other park sites and share your knowledge with the staff Train staff in interpretation based on the history, science, natural features, key historical figures, stories, activities, and events of the GG Bridge, Crissy Field, Presidio, Fort Point, Alcatraz, Muir Woods, and Lands End Participate in interpretive training when offered Train staff about the best and safest ways to experience the natural and cultural resources and park programs of all GGNRA park sites Train staff in how to provide relevant visitor information about other attractions in San Francisco and the Bay Area with an emphasis on parks and natural areas Train staff in how to provide visitors with basic understanding of the Conservancy’s partnerships with the NPS, Presidio Trust, and Bridge District as needed Provide information to visitors about the scope of the Parks Conservancy’s work, programs, projects, volunteer opportunities, and other means of engagement Promote and sell memberships, explaining the benefits and the value of joining the Parks Conservancy, emphasizing not only immediate discounts at all Park Stores, but also being informed about happenings in the Parks, participating in special Walks and travels to other sites within the Parks Pay Rate and Benefits: Pay rate is $33.50 per hour.
