This 974-bed Level 1 trauma and academic medical center is the second-largest hospital in the state and operates an established pathology program comprising 7 clinical pathologists and 11 surgical pathologists, along with an AP/CP residency. The program is centralized within one tertiary care medical center laboratory, with the surgical pathology division processing approximately 26,000 cases annually. The facility maintains the clinical infrastructure and laboratory resources necessary to support structured hematopathology coverage.

North Carolina offers a range of experiences suited to varied interests. The state features natural landscapes including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the scenic Outer Banks coastline, and Linville Gorge within the Pisgah National Forest, as well as the North Carolina Arboretum and historic sites such as the Lost Colony on Roanoke Island. Coastal destinations including Atlantic Beach and Hatteras Island, alongside mountain towns and cultural attractions, provide year-round options for outdoor recreation and exploration across the state's distinct regions.

Clinicians will provide on-site inpatient hematopathology coverage Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with night and weekend call required. Coverage is to be provided in 1-week blocks beginning November 2026 on an ongoing basis. Clinical responsibilities include evaluation of blood smears, body fluids, bone marrow, lymph node, extranodal lymphoma, and flow cytometry sign out. Board certification in Hematopathology is required for all clinicians considered for this assignment.
