Construction Inspector

Take part in important transportation work as a Transportation Construction Inspector with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties: Permit Administration: Review permit requests and coordinate program activities to meet Department goals Construction Oversight: Inspect work sites to verify compliance with safety rules, standards, and permit conditions Customer Service: Provide guidance and information to applicants, contractors, and members of the public Team Coordination: Support employees by sharing knowledge, improving workflows, and encouraging quality efforts Resource Management: Organize administrative tasks to maintain accurate documentation and efficient office operations Standards Interpretation: Evaluate drawings, plans, and regulations to determine proper requirements and solutions Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title); or Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles); or One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirement This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent. Other Requirements You must meet the PA residency requirement. This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding. You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations. Promotion Without Examination (PWOE) Class Restrictions for Promotion Without Examination Only – You must have or have held regular civil service status in one of the following classifications: Transportation Technician Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination. The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations. Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.
