Job Title

Job duties include:

• Performing a wide variety of difficult and complex laboratory tests and examinations in the chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, immunohematology, and microbiology sections of a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) laboratory.
• Selecting appropriate test methodology to use and recognizing when test values are positive or exceed a defined decision limit, based on the results that determine the need for additional testing.
• Providing presumptive level bioterrorism agency identification in support of Home Land Defense (HLD) and overseeing proficiency training in this area of the lab.
• Providing training for laboratory personnel.
• Ensuring proper collection and processing of specimens for reference laboratory testing.
• Performing fluorescent antibody tests such as the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption test, a serologic test for syphilis, and the fluorescent antibody test for lupus erythematosus.
• Ensuring detected testing errors are resolved and specimens are retested before results are reported.
• Maintaining appropriate quality control data specific for individual tests performed.
• Inputting data and results in hospital-wide computer system making corrections as required for proper diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
