Staff Accountant

Staff AccountantUnder the direction of the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting in the day to day operations of the business office.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Prepare and post journal entries for payroll, accruals, receipts, reconciliationsResponsible for student activity funds accounting, reporting and oversightAssist with annual financial audit and provide outside auditing firm with documentation, reports, and analyses as neededAssist with budget entry and analysesAssist with monthly general ledger account reconciliationsPrepare and record school department bank reconciliation statementsAssist school staff with trouble shooting financial software, general ledger account coding, purchase requisitions, purchase orders and invoices as neededAssist in managing all federal, state, and local grantsPerform any additional accounting duties as requested by the Director of Finance or Controller to ensure efficient business operationsKnowledge, skills and abilities include:Working knowledge of district and school rules, state and federal regulations, and policies applicable to area of assignmentAbility to work effectively with district personnel, administrators, staff, parents, outside agencies, other school districts, and the community in a confidential mannerMust be highly detailed and organizedAbility to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectivesProficiency with email and Microsoft Office, especially ExcelGovernment accounting software experience preferredAbility to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance creativity, problem solving, and resultsMinimum qualifications include:Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business fieldOne (1) to three (3) years' experience with municipal, non-profit, and/or fund accountingPreferred qualifications include:Experience with Infinite Visions accounting softwareExperience working with the RI Department of Education's Uniform Chart of Accounts (UCOA)Physical demands include:While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, stretching, standing, and walkingThe employee is regularly required to talk and/or hearThe employee is frequently required to use hands, handle or feelFrequent and repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using writing tools and computersThe employee must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting and/or moving objects up to ten (10) poundsSpecific vision abilities include close visionWork environment includes:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to noise levels normally found in an office and/or school environment
