Research Technician I- Lefkowitz Lab

Primary Work Address: MSRB 1, Suite 301, Research Drive, Durham, NC, 27710We are looking for a Research Technician I to join Dr. Robert Lefkowitz’s lab at Duke University. The lab is known for the discovery and characterization of G protein–coupled receptors (GPCRs), for which Dr. Lefkowitz received the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. GPCRs are the targets of approximately one-third of all prescription drugs and regulate major aspects of physiology, including blood pressure (adrenergic receptors), pain (opioid receptors), blood sugar levels (GLP-1 receptors), and immune responses (histamine receptors), among others. The lab seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying GPCR function by applying methods in biochemistry, structural biology, medicinal and computational chemistry, drug discovery, and signaling biology. More information about ongoing research can be found on our website: the role:This position will involve working closely with a highly experienced Assistant Professor in the lab to develop small molecule modulators of GPCRs and signaling proteins, and to investigate the structural basis underlying mechanisms of drug action and effector interactions using pharmacological and structural biology approaches, including cryo-electron microscopy, with responsibilities including protein purification, preparation of samples for cryo-EM studies, and structural data analysis. The ideal candidate will contribute to data analysis and interpretation and communicate findings clearly. This role requires a willingness to take initiative, engage deeply with science, maintain accurate documentation, and stay informed through relevant scientific literature. The position also involves maintaining supplies and organization and assisting in the training of undergraduate students.The ideal candidate will be not only innately curious but also someone who has a passion for continuing to push the boundaries of our understanding. Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance.Ordering, organization, and curation of lab supplies and inventory.Actively contribute to laboratory meetings and planning sessions.Record keeping and other organizational duties.What you bring:Bachelor’s/master’s degree in biology, Chemistry or a related field.Prior experience working in a research laboratory.Experience in protein biochemistry including expression, chromatographic purification, and analysis is a strong plus.Understanding basic molecular biology, biochemistry, and related fields.Excellent analytical, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.Ability to work both independently and as a team member while engaged in collaborative studies.Able to learn complex tasks with instruction, and to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques.Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise.Physical RequirementsRemaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace.
