Global Tech Apprentice Program - IBM Z Mainframe System Administrator - Plano, TX

Job Description Apprentices will be joining a technology apprenticeship program, designed to introduce associates with little to no work experience to technology roles. The Global Tech Apprentice Program – IBM Z Mainframe System Administrator role is an opportunity to earn as you learn, gaining knowledge and experience in the fundamentals of mainframe computing. The program lasts one year, during which you will complete technical coursework and assigned tasks to develop the skills and competencies required by the role. You will set your own learning pace; however, continued employment is dependent upon successful completion of all program requirements. You will work with a Success Coach as you advance through your personal skills roadmap to demonstrate knowledge and competencies. Progress will be measured by milestones and the earning of IBM digital credentials to validate your skills. Responsibilities Knowledge of basic IBM Mainframe systems such as transaction and database managers, message queue managers, operating systems and communication services. Basic knowledge of one or more mainframe technologies (CICS, DB2, IMS, WMQ, z/OS, Storage) and Job Control Language (JCL). Debug JCL and make appropriate changes to execute successfully; utilize ISPF for browsing, editing and managing datasets; create a catalog procedure using symbolic parameters; utilize IBM utilities (IEBGENER, IEBCOPY) to copy or back up data; describe dataset organizations and when to use them. Ensure that systems and applications operate to business needs and specifications. Participate in occasional evening and weekend work, as well as on‑call rotation. Qualifications Must be an active participant with the JobForward program. Successful completion of IBM Z Pre‑Apprenticeship training. Commitment to learning and building a technical and business skill set. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Strong integrity and personal accountability. Familiarity with IT preferred, but not required. Shift & Hours Shift: 1st shift (United States of America).
